See Something, Say Something Training
This week, on Monday, all students will participate in See Something, Say Something training at school. This national safety program teaches students how to recognize warning signs of potential threats or unsafe situations and empowers them to take action by reporting concerns to a trusted adult. The training is designed to build awareness, encourage responsibility, and help keep our school community safe.
In addition to this video, state law under the Protecting Our Students Act requires that all students and staff in grades 6–12 view safety videos developed by the NC Center for Safer Schools. There is one video for middle school that students will also view on Monday.
Back To School Bash this Friday
Parents and Families...you are invited to be in our stadium at 2 PM this Friday, September 12, for our annual Back to School Bash. This is a competition of different activities between 7th and 8th graders. Ask your child if he/she signed up and feel free to join and watch the fun!
NBMS Beta Club
We will have our first Beta Club meeting on Wednesday, September 10th from 3-4pm in the media center. If you were in Beta last year, you are welcome to attend. If you are INTERESTED in joining, please attend and learn about how to become a Beta Club member.
What is Beta club?
Members of the NBMS Beta club are dedicated to leading and serving their community. We base our projects and membership on the four national pillars: Achievement, Character, Leadership, and Service.
We will meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 3-4pm. Please make sure to see Mrs. Roop or Mrs. Wooten if you have any questions.
Check out the National Beta Club Website for more details https://www.betaclub.org/.
What Is National Beta?
Let Us Lead by Serving Others - As the largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization in America, National Beta is dedicated to leading by serving others. Our four pillars are the perfect summation of the core of National Beta. The Beta community recognizes high academic achievement, rewards and nurtures worthy character, fosters leadership skills, and encourages service to others. Being a Beta means being a part of a community of leaders who are positively impacting the world.

BCS ALL COUNTY ORCHESTRA
Last week all 7th and 8th grade students received an All County Orchestra Flyer and Registration Form in class. If your child is interested in auditioning for All County Orchestra, please have them return the signed registration form to me at school by Wednesday, September 17th or complete the google form linked in the flyer. To find out more about what is involved in participating, please refer to the flyer or visit the website.
TUESDAY AFTER SCHOOL PRACTICE
As a way to help students who are interested in preparing for the All County audition, I will be offering after school practice sessions every Tuesday afternoon from dismissal (3:02 PM) until 4 PM. My intention is for Tuesday afternoons to be regular weekly sessions so that students may have the option to attend practice as their schedule allows. Of course, participation in those sessions is completely voluntary and does not affect your student's grade in the class.

NCDOT Aviation Art Contest
We are excited to launch the 2026 North Carolina Aviation Art Contest for students born between 2008-2019.
Please share this information with all teachers in your school. This can be a fun classroom project or an individual student endeavor during the Fall semester. Almost 13,000 North Carolina students from 825 schools have participated in the contest since 2013. We hope your students will join the fun while competing for cash prizes.
Entries must be RECEIVED by Friday, January 16, 2026. No extensions will be offered.
This year’s theme is “Fly to Save Lives.” Read more about the theme at the NCDOT Division of Aviation’s art contest website. We invite all students who live in or attend school in North Carolina to focus their creativity on how aviation and air sports can help save lives.
All students who participate will receive electronic Certificates of Participation. Additionally, the top three entries in each age group, determined by date of birth, will be forwarded to Washington, D.C., to be judged in the national competition. The artwork of the national winners will be sent to Switzerland to compete in the international competition.
