A MESSAGE FROM MR. BOWEN

Dear Titan Families,

It is hard to believe we are already to March. We are excited to wrap up quarter 3 and prepare for quarter 4. Just a reminder that Spring Break starts for students on Friday, March 7th, there is no school that day because it is a teacher workday. We will welcome students back on March 17th.

If you didn't get a chance to read the February Newsletter, we encourage you to go back and review my message from last month. It reviews attendance, tardies, and the Student Responsibility Classroom procedures.

Since the start of "remote learning", there seems to be an idea floating around that learning alone, from home, on a screen, is just as effective as in-person learning. For most young students, this is not the case. Being present with a trained teacher, working with peers, and learning to collaborate with other people is a skill not easily duplicated via remote learning. Students need hands-on, interactive, collaborative experiences to gain skills desired by future employers, needed for self-employment, and requested by colleges and trade schools. Being at school, and in-class, on time, every day helps kids build strong work habits that will prepare them for whatever path they would like to choose in the future. Please help your students be here each day, the habits they build now will stretch long into the future.

Have a great Spring Break, we look forward to working with you and your students as we finish the 2024-2025 school year.

Sincerely,

Brandt Bowen

Is your 8th grader interested in learning more about attending Valley Pathways or Burchell High School next year?

Many students that seek out these schools struggle to manage the 7-period, block scheduling days that are offered at the comprehensive high schools. Valley Pathways and Burchell offer smaller settings where a student may feel less overwhelmed and better able to navigate the high school experience. Counselors from these schools are happy to come and visit with your student to share information and answer any questions they may have.

If you think your student would benefit from learning about what these schools have to offer, please emailCheyenne.dargis@matsuk12.us

Is your 8th grader interested in taking college courses for FREE, building community, earning scholarship money for the University of Alaska, and working on hands-on activities while being a high school student? Come hear about the ANSEP Acceleration Academy located at Matsu College! If interested in learning more about ANSEP, please email cheyenne.dargis@matsuk12.us. Check out their website here: https://www.ansep.net/.

Stay tuned! During the last week of March, TMS 6th and 7th graders will have the opportunity to submit their elective course requests for the 2025-2026 school year.
