Hello NRMS Families,

We have turned the calendar to October and just like that we are one-tenth of the way through the school year. Students have now completed the iReady diagnostic tests in Reading and Math. This data provides us with information about students that we can use to implement interventions for students, as needed. We can also look at student growth when we take the diagnostics again in March. The end of October is when you can schedule appointments to meet with some of your child's teachers. At the middle school, we strongly encourage students to join these conversations. More information on our Parent-Teacher-Student conferences is coming next week.

Also next week is our first Pack the Gym event for this school year. We invite all students to stay after school on Tuesday October 6 in our cafeteria for trivia games and snacks. We will then pack the gym to cheer on the NRMS Volleyball team in their match at 4pm. Let's make some noise and cheer our team onto victory.

At our Open House event last week, I shared information about the NRMS Education Foundation. This year, the NRMS Education Foundation is seeking to provide our teachers with opportunities to apply for mini-grants. We have asked teachers to think about what they might do if they had access to just a few hundred dollars in addition to what they have through our operating budget. Among some of the initial ideas that teachers had were items like an earthquake shake table, an electric cello, podcasting equipment, and so much more. The NRMS Education Foundation invites families to contribute an amount they feel comfortable with donating to us to help fund a few mini-grants each school year. Donations of $10, $20, $50 all would make a difference. At the Open House event alone we had twenty families donate collectively over $500. This will no doubt allow us to fund one or two of the mini-grants. Just think of what we could do if more families make a donation. Can you please help us out? Please visit the NRMS Education Foundation website and make your donation today. We thank you for your support.

Happy October and enjoy the weekend.

House System

At NRMS, every student and staff member is a member of a House. 6th graders and New Students will find out their House assignment during the first week of school. Will Hurricane House successfully defend their House Cup title and repeat as champions? We will provide updates here.

The Tornado House holds on to their lead this week.
