33 EHS Students Earn 52 National Academic Recognitions
Elgin High School is celebrating a record-breaking achievement this year with 33 students earning a total of 52 honors through the College Board’s National Recognition Programs.
“Our EISD students are incredible and hungry for meaningful and challenging coursework and it's invigorating for us, as their educators and advocates, to provide that for them,” Director of Fine Arts and Advanced Academics Alyson Keller said. “These recognitions mean the care and concern we are taking in teaching our students and providing them innovative educational experiences is taking hold.”
The recognitions highlight students for outstanding academic performance on the PSAT and AP exams, as well as for demonstrating potential to be among the first in their families to attend college.
Students were recognized across three categories:
First-Generation Recognition Program – Honors students who could be the first in their families to earn a college degree, who scored in the top 10% statewide on the PSAT, and/or who earned a score of 3 or higher on two or more AP exams.
National Rural and Small Town Recognition Program – Awarded to students from rural or small-town communities who performed in the top 10% of the state on the PSAT and/or scored a 3 or higher on two or more AP exams.
School Recognition Program – Recognizes Elgin High School students who ranked in the top 10% on the PSAT locally.
"I am so incredibly proud of my students and their teachers,” Principal Armetrius Staples said. “The hours of dedication, hard work, and perseverance they’ve poured into this journey are truly inspiring. Their commitment to growth, learning, and excellence has paid off in ways that go far beyond just results — it's a testament to their character, teamwork, and passion. Watching them rise to the challenge and support one another along the way has been nothing short of amazing."
Keller said that nationally, students who receive these recognitions are 29% more likely to be admitted to college, 25% more likely to enroll, and 31% more likely to complete a bachelor’s degree within four years.
This year’s total marks a significant increase from last year, when five students received recognition. Keller attributed the 85% increase to dedicated teachers, a strong academic culture, and the recent restructuring that provided a home for the Advanced Academics program.
“I attribute this success first and foremost to the EHS teachers who pour their hearts and energies into their students,” she said. “They encourage their students to work hard for their goals and not shy away from rigorous coursework. The EHS administration works diligently every day to create a culture of excellence and the students are rising to meet this challenge.”
EISD Bond Construction Update
One Team, One Dream Award
The EISD theme for the year is, "We’re all in this together!”
Each month, EISD recognizes staff members who embody this spirit through the One Team, One Dream Award—celebrating those who collaborate to solve problems, support others, and hold high expectations for themselves and our students.
This month, we honor Tailar Kravitski and the EMS Counseling Team.
A colleague shared this about Ms. Kravitski:
“Tailar will always help out any time she is asked. She is a tremendous help to purchasing and assisting others with purchase orders, quotes, or just general everyday questions.”
We also recognize the EMS Counseling Team—Liana Cox, Zaneta Mendez, and Cynthia Ramirez—for their compassionate leadership during a difficult time. Following the tragic loss of a student over Labor Day weekend, they worked tirelessly to support both students and staff, even through their own lunch breaks, ensuring everyone had a safe place to navigate grief and loss.
Please join us in celebrating these colleagues who truly exemplify what it means to be One Team, One Dream.
