Host an Exchange Student and Change Your Life!!
Host an Exchange Student with AFS-USA
For decades, families connected to South High School have welcomed international exchange students through AFS-USA. Hosting an exchange student is a unique opportunity to bring the world into your home while giving a young person from another country the experience of studying and living in the United States.
AFS-USA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to intercultural learning and global understanding. Through the program, students attend a local high school, become part of a host family, and experience everyday American life while sharing their own culture, traditions, and perspectives.
Host families provide a safe and supportive home environment, including a bed, meals, transportation to and from school, and most importantly, an open heart. Families of all backgrounds are welcome to host.
Local AFS volunteers help match families with students and provide guidance and support throughout the entire exchange experience.
Host families are able to review student profiles and select a student who feels like a good fit for their family—often based on shared hobbies, interests, personalities, or other connections.
Sheboygan South High School has a long history of welcoming AFS students from around the world. In the past, students from countries such as Germany, Belgium, Austria, Brazil, Mozambique, Italy, Argentina, and many others have studied at South.
For the 2025–2026 school year, three AFS students are currently attending South High School:
Jaqui from Germany
Ana from Brazil
Aureo from Mozambique
In the past 10 years - South High has welcomed 23 AFS students
Hosting options are available for both semester and full school year programs.
Families interested in learning more can visit afsusa.org/host-family/or contact local Sheboygan AFS volunteer Sarah Engel-Streicher at sarah.engel-streicher.usavol@afs.org. Sarah is happy to answer questions and speak with interested families.
