Message from Principal Montour

Dear Wildcat families,

As we welcome back our Wildcats, we are excited to partner with you for a great school year! Here are a few key ways to stay connected and support your student’s growth:

  • Track Academic Progress with Canvas: Easily monitor grades, due dates, and teacher feedback using the Canvas Parent app, or log in on a computer for a full view. Click here to set up your account with a pairing code, and here for a quick guide on navigating features and setting grade alerts.

  • Encourage Student Involvement: Getting involved in clubs, sports, and school activities is one of the best ways for students to build connections, discover new interests, and make the most of their school experience. We ask for your help in encouraging your child to jump in and participate this year!

  • Prioritize Attendance: Consistent attendance is key to academic success and staying connected with classroom learning. Help your student start strong by ensuring they arrive on time each day ready to learn!

  • Encourage Self-Advocacy: To help our Wildcats build confidence and independence for life after high school, we ask parents to allow students to take the first step in reaching out to teachers or staff when questions arise. If an issue remains unresolved after their effort—or if it involves safety or well-being—we warmly welcome parent involvement so we can problem-solve together.

  • Set High Expectations: When parents and schools hold high expectations for effort, behavior, and academic growth, students rise to the challenge. We intend to raise our expectations this year to promote more academic engagement and reinforce the importance of due dates and being prepared.

Our mantra to the students at West is “You Belong”. We believe that every student brings value to our building and has a place here. The more we can partner with you to support them, the more success they find and the more they feel that sense of belonging. We look forward to another school year getting to know all of our Wildcats and pushing them to achieve the excellence we know they are capable of. Thank you for partnering with us to inspire our Wildcats to reach their full potential!

✏️ 26/27 School Supply List 📒

At OWHS, we do not have a set school supply list. The courses students can take are so varied. Due to this, we do not provide a set list of supplies needed. Students are free to organize themselves however they feel works best for them.

At a minimum, we recommend the following:

● Notebooks

● Folders

● Writing Utensils

● Chromebook will be provided to all students

● Students are allowed to carry a backpack from class to class

If there are any specific items needed for a class, teachers will let the students know the first week of school.

⚠️ 26/27 Student Registration - Important Info. ⚠️

If you have yet to register your student(s) for the upcoming school year please ensure you do this prior to Sept. 1. If your student will require bussing this year, you must complete your registration by Aug. 16 to ensure bussing the first day of school.

In our enrollment this year, you will have the option to select if your student will be eligible for field trips, participate in athletic sports, and have their photo in the yearbook. If you do not complete registration by Sept. 1, your student will not be eligible for field trips, sports, or the yearbook.

How to Register: Log in via the Infinite Campus website or the "Campus Parent" mobile app (available on the App Store and Google Play). Click “More” on the bottom left, then select “Online Registration.”

Join Our Neighborhood Information Session

We invite you to join us, along with our architecture partner (Bray Architects) and a representative from the City of Oshkosh Planning Services, to review the detailed plans for the new middle school and answer any questions you may have.

  • Date: Tuesday, August 18, 2026

  • Time: 5:30 PM

  • Location: Oshkosh West High School - Alberta Kimball Auditorium (375 N Eagle St)

As part of our middle school consolidation plan, this project aims to enhance student learning environments and improve operational efficiencies by reducing the number of westside middle schools from three to two. Following our recent small group discussion with directly impacted neighbors, we are now hosting a broader community meeting to share updated design plans, talk about the project, and answer questions.

Attendance Information and Procedures Attendance Information and Procedures

Appointments/leaving building options:

  • Infinite Campus (IC) Parent Portal - You can submit preplanned absence request online!
    • In IC go under More > Absence Request.
      • Please make sure to fill out all the fields with your information so we can accurately mark your student's attendance.
      • Please allow us a minimum of 1 hour notice if your student needs to leave the building early so we have time to locate your student.
  • Send note with student - should be brought to Student Services before appointment to get a pass.
  • Call in advance - If leaving voicemail, please let us know student’s name, reason for leaving and from which door you will pick student up. Call (920) 424-4090 x4 or (920) 424-4070.
  • Email - you are welcome to email us for excused absences. Please email kelsey.gates@oshkosh.k12.wi.us and beth.held@oshkosh.k12.wi.us.

Note - we are often busy on phones or helping students, so if it’s a last minute request, a call is probably the best option. We check voicemails often.

Student Services will write a pass for the student to leave and will have it delivered to the student during one of the classes before the time they are to leave. Students can leave out of Door 38 (Eagle St. in front by flagpole) or Door 24 (gym doors) ONLY, please let us know which door to mark on the pass. The student must sign out on the kiosk at the specified door and can leave the building.

If your student is returning from an appointment, or arriving late, they MUST sign in at either door on the kiosk so we can update attendance. They can return through either Door 24 and Door 38.

* If there is an appointment that comes up with short notice, please let us know ASAP, it sometimes takes a bit to locate students and get them a pass to leave.
