A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear PES families,

Welcome back to school! We have been enjoying our first week back. We are welcoming many new students and families to our PES community this year, which seems to be the theme, as we have also welcomed many new staff as well. We are excited to get this school year started with collaboration and community building. First up, a whole school assembly on Friday to learn about how we can all be responsible, respectful, kind and safe at school.

New things at PES:

🛝⛹️‍♀️This year, we are mixing up our lunch and recess groups to include students from all grade levels. Each trimester, students will be mixed into new groups. We have a lunch group A and a lunch group B. The purpose behind this is to help us strengthen our whole school community. It also gives our bigs and littles more time to interact with one another. The benefits of mixed age group play has shown to build a stronger school culture. As a reminder, all students at PES have recess together for ten minutes each day. The most exciting news for our students…...they all have five extra minutes of recess everyday. That equals more outside fun and physical movement. Kindergarten is together for the first trimester in lunch group A.

🍔🥗🥪Speaking of lunch. We have new alternative lunch choices each day of the week. Monday and Wednesday is peanut butter and jelly, Tuesday and Thursday is ham and cheese, and Friday is fluff and peanut butter. If you are looking for breakfast and lunch menus, they are in our newsletter. Breakfast is a grab and go in the morning where students are able to select what they would like and bring all their items to the classroom in baskets.

✖️🧮For learning, we have a new math program called Reveal math. Students are slowly easing into this new program, and will be learning alongside their teachers. Save the date on October 9th for a fun family math night! Students and families will be able to play some math games and win fun prizes!

I hope you are all settling back into your routines and enjoying the back to school joy from your student/s.

Kind regards,

Nina Willette

Principal

ANNUAL ONLINE UPDATE

By now, you should have received an email from the RSU1 Technology Department (via IC-Messenger-NoReply@rsu1.org) asking you to do your annual online update (via parent portal in Infinite Campus) in place of the mountain of forms that used to go home on the first day of school. Please be sure to complete the annual update no later than September 8th, though the sooner it is done, the better. Thank you to all parents who've already done this; we are at approximately 96% complete. If you are having trouble with it, please contact Mrs. Doran at tdoran@rsu1.org or email techsupport@rsu1.org.

STUDENT AND FAMILY HANDBOOK

Each year, we will update our student and family handbook. This year, our handbook has been revamped with new information. Please take the time to review the items in the handbook as it contains important information to help you prepare yourself and your child/ren for a new school year. Visit the handbook HERE or contact Tammy Doran in the office, 389-1514.

BUS NEWS: SCHOOL BUS RULES

  1. Remain seated.

  2. Face the front of the bus.

  3. Keep hands and feet to yourself and out of the aisle.

  4. Use a quiet voice to talk.

  5. No eating and drinking.

  6. Keep the bus clean by cleaning up after yourself.

  7. Use kind and respectful language.

Also: always remember the Danger Zone, and follow Bus Driver’s direction.

Students who violate the bus rules will be sent home with a bus slip. Upon receipt of a third bus notice, the student and parents will meet with the principal to determine a corrective plan of action. The principal reserves the right to remove students from the bus for a period of time based upon rule violations at any time.

BUS SCHEDULE*

We ask for your patience for the first two weeks of school as we adjust the schedule for new students and the new groups. Please plan to be outside at the bus stop 5 or 10 minutes before your scheduled pickup. Remember that kindergarten students riding the bus are not allowed off the bus without an adult present at the bus stop.

For Phippsburg bus runs, click the PES tab at the bottom of the page of the following link:

2025-2026 Bus Runs for RSU 1 (Bus runs for the 2025-2026 school year were published August 20th.)

If you have questions about specific bus runs, please see the "Bus Company Contact Information" tab for more information.

*Please check with your bus driver on approximate drop off times for your student in the afternoon. It takes a few days to adjust to a routine drop off schedule.

If your child will be getting off the bus at a stop other than their normal stop, please be sure to send in a permission note with student's full name, the address of their destination and whether it is a one-time stop or for the rest of the school year. This note is to be given to your child's teacher first thing in the morning to share with Mrs. Doran to share with the bus driver.
