Art

ALL SCHOOL PROJECT:

We are very excited about this year's all school project based on the artwork of Dale Chihuly.

Dale Chihuly is an American artist known for transforming glass blowing into a fine art and is considered the greatest living master of the medium. Chihuly’s artwork is displayed all around the world including at the Milwaukee Art Museum and The Kohl Center at UW-Madison.

After learning about Chihuly, students created their own Chihuly inspired form using a coffee filter, markers, and liquid starch. Each grade used a different color scheme for their project.

WHAT WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON:

Fifth Grade: During October, fifth grade artists created artwork for GSPie's Square1Art fundraiser. The fifth grade artists learned about Brazilian Pop Artist, Romero Britto and created art inspired by his fun playful style. The young artists enjoyed selecting their own subject matter and using bold patterns and colors to create an unique piece. You will receive more information about this fundraiser from GSPie later this month

Fourth Grade: In October, fourth grade artists created a watercolor birch tree forest. This will be their artwork for the for the GSPIE Square1Art fundraiser. Through the process of creating this piece they learn a variety of watercolor techniques that include; masking, wash and dry brushing. They also learn to make a neutral color by mixing complementary colors. You will receive more information about this fundraiser from GSPie later this month.

Fourth grade artists also drew Day of the Dead sugar skulls. To start the project they learned about the traditions and celebrations that are a part of the Mexican Day of the Dead holiday. Artists then drew skulls and developed symmetrical designs that were added and colored with analogous colors.

Third Grade: Artists in third grade have been working on their project for the Square1ART fundraiser. For this project the third grade students created a tree drawing based on the artwork of Piet Mondrian. Students started the project by learning two methods of how to draw a realistic tree silhouette. Then they selected an analogous color scheme, and learned how to blend oil pastels to fill the sky behind the tree. You will receive more information about this fundraiser from GSPie later this month.

Ghost of John- 4M

4th Graders got a little spooky in the music room this month, exploring all the ways they could perform the song "Ghost of John". We learned how to sing it in unison and in a round, accompany it with instrumental ostinatos, and create movements to fit with the form and style of the song.
