A Message from Ms. Brown:
Dear Lamar Parents,
I can't believe we are about to start our second full week of school and close out most of August, too. Wow! Time flies when you are having fun! I hope you enjoyed your weekend and are beginning to get into a back to school groove. We are looking forward to another great week together. Please take time to read the message below and peruse the flyers and events coming up. See you in the morning!
Grade Level Newsletters:
In an attempt to better inform you about what your student is learning, your student's grade level will be sending newsletters out to you two times a month. You can expect them to come via email on the second and fourth Friday of each month. You should have received one on Friday, August 21st. If you did not receive this communication, please reach out directly to your student's teacher. The next newsletter will go out on Friday, September 11, 2026.
MAP Testing:
Our beginning of year MAP Testing begins this week. MAP testing is a diagnostic assessment given to students at the beginning, middle, and end of the year to assess strengths and needs. The assessment includes reading, math, and science (grades 2-4 only) content. The data gained from the testing helps our teachers cater their instruction to the needs of your students. We will be glad to share the results of your student's MAP testing with you during our fall conferences that will begin in late September through October.
Lunch Visitors:
Parents are welcome to come and have lunch with their Leopards starting tomorrow, Monday, August 24th. Upon your arrival, please have your ID ready to check in at the front office with Mrs. Silvia prior to having lunch with your student. At about five minutes before the conclusion of your student's lunch time, staff will prompt all students to begin finishing and gathering their trash. When the students line up to leave the cafeteria for recess, you will make your exit through the front office. We look forward to having you.
Title 1 Fall Meeting/Parent Information Night:
Our Title 1 Fall Meeting and Parent Information Night will take place this Thursday, August 27th. The times for the grade levels varies: Pre-K-1st: 5:00-6:00 p.m. and 2nd-4th: 6:00-7:00 p.m. We hope to see you there!
Sensory Room:
We are excited to offer a sensory room at Lamar. Our own Mrs. Julian has been working to create a space for our students. If you would like to help support creating this space for our Leopards, please consider helping us add to the environment. Here is an Amazon Wish List to support: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1SMTDPCA22T98?ref_=wl_share
SAAVAS Math Family Engagement Links:
We have adopted a new math curriculum, and we want you to explore math with your student at home. Please see the flyers below to access your student's grade level links. These links will provide you with information and materials to support your student at home.
Coffee with the Principal:
Thank you to all who came out to the first installment of Coffee with the Principal. I am hoping this opportunity to come and chat will help bridge the gap regarding important school topics that you as parents may feel you need more information. My next Coffee with the Principal will be held in November. Hope to see you there!
PTO Meetings:
We had a great turnout for our first PTO meeting of the year. If you missed it, please follow up with Lindsey Waugh, our PTO President for the minutes. PTO will hold monthly meetings, and we would love for you to come be a part. Our next meeting is September 17th at 2:00 p.m. Hope to see you there!
PTO T-Shirts:
PTO is selling t-shirts. Please see the flyer below to order.
First in Car Line Auction:

Read-A-Thon:
Please see the communication from PTO below about our upcoming Read-A-Thon. This event promotes reading for our students while we fundraise. We hope you enjoy participating and supporting Lamar in the process.
Still Looking for Volunteers to Stock the Lounge:
A flyer for this year's Stock the Lounge event is below. Please consider helping us show our teachers/staff all the love. Sign up for an event or month to bring goodies and drinks in for the Lamar Staff. They would really appreciate it!
Please take time to check out the information below. Let me know if you have any questions or need any clarification on the information shared in The Limelight.
