NOVA News
October 16th, 2023
As we step into the heart of the fall season, I am excited for the next few weekends here at NOVA. The air may be getting crisper, and the leaves are turning, but for us, this is the time of year when things start to heat up. I want to highlight a few things as we dive headfirst into the bustling period of swim meets and competitions.
We are tremendously fortunate to own and operate both of our aquatics facilities. Over the next 3 weekends teams from up and down the East Coast and across the state of Virginia will travel to compete against NOVA swimmers, in “Our House.” Our swim team's reputation continues to grow, and our Regency pool has proven to be an exciting, high quality pool to compete in, at every level. If you have been here for a while you know that it is a testament to our collective dedication and the sense of community we've fostered over the years.
Our NOVA coaches, our meet managers, lifeguards, officials, volunteers, and parents all play an invaluable role in making these events a success, and I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to each one of you for your continued support. Thank you for being a part of NOVA, and let's make this year's journey one of growth, achievement, and community.

How many swimmers are in SDS? 46 swimmers
What skills are you working on this week? We will have goal setting sessions on Monday and Tuesday. Talk about what it is and how to be a champion teammate. Things will start to ramp up. This weeks practices will include underwater kicking, distance free, 200 Race Pace, and IM work
David, what's you favorite part of working with SDS? I take great joy in helping swimmers accomplish things they never thought they could do. Whether it be making it through a tough set, holding a particular race pace, hitting a particular goal etc… I love the SDS swimmers eagerness to learn more. The kids have a lot of fun together and sincerely support each other. It’s amazing to be part of their swimming experience.
Zoe, what's your favorite part of work with SDS? My favorite part about working with SDS is getting to help kids grow in the pool. Teaching them how to mentally push through physically challenging practices and then seeing their “I actually can do this” moments is very rewarding.
Michael, what's your favorite part of working with SDS? I love seeing the competitiveness and dedication, as well as the passion from this group! They are incredibly supportive of each other!
David, what's your favorite part about working with Zoe and Michael? Michael is a veteran coach, alumni and has great passion for the NOVA program like me. Zoe is young and energetic and has been a great addition to the SDS coaching staff. Both Michael and Zoe compliment my coaching style well, which makes for fun easy days on deck.
Michael, what's your favorite part about working with David? I admire his attention to detail and his love his positivity that he brings to each practice.
Zoe, what's your favorite part about working with David? In the short amount of time I’ve worked here I definitely know I’ve grown as a coach from learning about David's coaching style and asking him questions.
Michael and Zoe what should David dress up for Halloween?
Zoe: I think David should be one of those inflatable dinosaurs for Halloween!
Michael: 80s/90s hair band member
David what should Michael and Zoe dress up for Halloween? Not sure what Michael’s wife would think about this? But I think this would be fun; Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce
