Our Learning Community...

Thank you to all of the families who were able to join us for Back-to-School Night! It was wonderful to see so many of you on campus and have the opportunity to connect with your child's teacher and learn more about the year ahead. Back-to-School Night is such a meaningful way to begin the school year because strong partnerships between families and teachers help create the foundation for a successful year. When students see the important adults in their lives connected and working together, it sends a powerful message that their learning, growth, and well-being matter.

If you were not able to join us, don't worry! Teachers will be sharing their Back-to-School Night slide decks with families so you can learn more about classroom routines, expectations, curriculum, and ways to stay connected throughout the year.

You can also watch Principal Buell's Back-to-School Night overview video here:
https://youtu.be/VtvVVqVXo5M

It looks like the heat will be sticking around this week! Please help your child prepare by sending them to school with comfortable clothing layers and a water bottle. Mornings can feel quite cool in our classrooms because we begin running the air conditioning early as part of our hot-weather plan. Starting the cooling process early helps us maintain a more comfortable learning environment once the temperatures rise later in the day. As always, please remind your child to drink plenty of water throughout the day and let an adult know if they are feeling too hot or uncomfortable.

Class: Back to School with E-bikes

When: Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at 6 p.m.
Where: Event Online: Link to Register

As e-bikes and electric scooters become increasingly common in San Diego communities, we are also seeing growing concerns about student safety, including speeding, distracted riding, riding without appropriate safety gear, and unsafe behavior around traffic and pedestrians. SANDAG and Jones Elementary want to partner with families to help our students make safe, responsible choices when riding to and from school. Please join SANDAG for a virtual E-Bike Safety class to learn more about the risks young riders face, important safety expectations, and practical ways families can help keep their children safe. Your participation can make a meaningful difference in helping our students enjoy the independence of riding while making choices that protect themselves and others.

Join SANDAG for a virtual class, taught by instructors from the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition, to learn about:

  • E-bike types and differences
  • Signs and signals
  • New laws and school district rules

Bikes, Force & Motion Bikes, Force & Motion

Did you know that just 15 minutes of reading each day can make a world of difference in your child’s learning journey? Whether you are reading to your child, reading together, or listening to them read aloud, it all counts and it all matters!

Reading at home builds more than just literacy skills. It strengthens vocabulary, improves comprehension, and develops a lifelong love of learning. In fact, children who are read to daily are exposed to 1.4 million more words by the time they start school than children who are not. That kind of language exposure lays a strong foundation for both academic success and confident communication.

Just as importantly, books also help children grow socially by allowing them to step into other people’s experiences, see the world from different perspectives and practice empathy and kindness. Stories have the power to spark cultural awareness, build understanding and nurture the skills that help our students become not only successful learners, but also compassionate human beings.

Here are a few ways to make reading a special part of your routine:

  • Choose a cozy time and space to read together

  • Let your child pick the book (even if it’s the same one again!)

  • Ask questions about the story to boost comprehension

  • Model a love for reading by enjoying your own book nearby

The best part, your family has access to an endless amount of books through the internet and the Public Library. Looking for something new to read? Check out the links below for inspiration...
