March 2026 Chapter Meeting
Reminder! Don't Forget to RSVP
Meeting Highlights
Join us for a powerful morning of living history as we honor the courage and legacy of local pioneers who helped shape educational equity in Prince William County.
We are honored to welcome The Honorable Gwen Washington, lifelong Dumfries resident, who will share an oral history of growing up in 1950s Prince William County and reflect on the enduring impact of her parents’ leadership.
Her father, John Wilmer Porter, was the first Black elected official in Virginia following Reconstruction. Her mother, Mary G. Porter, was one of the Courageous Four, the first African American teachers selected to integrate formerly all White schools in Prince William County in 1964.
This program reminds us that patriotism is not only preserved in monuments. It is carried forward by courageous women in classrooms, communities, and chapters like ours.
We hope you will join us for this meaningful gathering.
