Cougar Connection
November 2026
Hello Cougar Families,
It's Sock Hop time! The annual Keith Elementary Sock Hop is one of our time-honored traditions! This community-wide event is always a great time! We have bounce houses, food, face-painting, hula hoop challenge, cake and candy bar walk, and lots of games! Our 4th grade students kick-off the evening with a fantastic 50s show!
If this is your first Sock Hop, here is the scoop! Wear your fifties gear and come on over the Keith at 6:00pm. Parking can be a challenge, so we encourage everyone to walk or carpool. The last day to pre-order your tickets is Monday, November 2nd, so purchase them today on SchoolCash! This will help you avoid waiting in long lines to buy tickets. Don't worry! If you miss the pre-order deadline, you can get tickets at the Sock Hop! We will be selling pizza, nachos, and other "carnival-style" food. We also have a great silent auction where you can bid on baskets and experiences that your children will love! Click on the link below to check out the Sock Hop Newsletter!
All of the proceeds from the Sock Hop go directly back to the classrooms at Keith Elementary. While this is a fun community event, it is also the only major fundraiser run by Keith Elementary (not the PTO). The funds raised from Sock Hop and the silent auction pay for classroom supplies, student incentives, and other items that make your child's classroom run smoothly.
We look forward to seeing everyone at the Sock Hop on November 6th at 6:00pm!
Warm regards,
Julie Clements

October Counselor Lessons
PreK
Our youngest Cougars learned about being a kind friend. There are many things we can do to be a kind friend and classmate. A few of the things we talked about are:
*Listening to others
*Sharing
*Taking turns
*Working as a team
*Apologizing
*When we all work together and are kind to each other, school is a fun and happy place!
Kinder – 2nd Grade
During the month of October, our kindergarten, first graders, and second graders discussed how to C.A.R.E. for others. When we C.A.R.E. for others we show concern and kindness.
C = Compassionate – We show compassion for others and how they are feeling.
A = Aware – We use our eyes to notice and be aware of how someone else may be feeling.
R = Report – If we have a friend that needs help, we report and ask an adult to help them.
E = Encourage – We encourage others and support them when they need help.
3rd & 4th Grade
Empathy is thinking about how other people are feeling and taking action to show them that you care. During our lesson we learned that empathy is as easy as PIE!
P = Pay Attention – We use our eyes to see how other people are feeling
I = Imagine – Imagine how the other person is feeling. Put yourself in their shoes…what would you need if you were them? How would you feel.
E = Express Empathy – Empathy also means that we take action to help. Do something to help or encourage.
5th Grade
All of our fifth-grade guidance lessons are focused on preparing for the move to middle school. In September we discussed the difference between on level and advanced level courses and the importance of grades throughout fifth grade year. For the month of October we took time to look at sixth grade elective choices (choir, band, orchestra, art, theater arts). We also discussed the difference between P.E. and pre-athletics
Counselor Tips – Gratitude Jar
If you are looking for a fun activity to do with your children during the month of November your family might enjoy making a gratitude jar. Find a jar you have at home and work together to decorate it. Cut several slips of paper. Each day have every family member write something they are grateful for and drop it in the jar. At the end of the month, take time as a family to sit down and read through all the things each family member is grateful for.
Did You Know?
November is a month that most of us take extra time to focus on all the things we are grateful for in our lives. I am grateful to have the honor to serve all of our Keith Cougars as the school counselor. Your students bring joy to my heart every single day and make my job so rewarding! Thank you for allowing me to have a small part in their educational journey!
The national suicide and crisis lifeline is available to anyone 24/7 by calling or texting 988. It is free and confidential. You can call for yourself or on someone else’s behalf. 988lifeline.org
5th Grade Parent Information
Did you know that your fifth graders’ current grades are SUPER DUPER important? Your students’ grades in fifth grade play a huge role in class placement for their 6th grade year.
In 6th grade students can qualify for Advanced Level courses. One way students qualify for these courses is by earning an 85 or higher yearly average in their fifth-grade courses.
You should have received an important yellow paper in your child’s report card with more information about Advanced level courses. Below is a copy of the letter that was sent home.
