Every Child, Every Day. Every Child, Every Day.

India.Arie Sings "I Am Light" | SuperSoul Sessions | Oprah Winfrey Network

You Are Light!

We enjoyed this song this week at our staff meeting to remember that we are so much more than what we give ourselves credit for. Listen to this song and think about all you are! You are light!

💙 This week we are grateful that Andria and her family are celebrating a very successful surgery for their daughter Grace. She is at home and doing great after her surgery.

💛 Thank you to everyone involved with conferences this week. Your thoughtful conversations and efforts to partner with our parents are what sets SJPS apart from other schools. Way to go, team! Our parents appreciate ALL of our staff!

💙 Sub folders are a priority for us. We are looking to make them useful, comprehensive, and welcoming. If there is anything that you feel would be useful that we may not have thought of in the office, please let us know!

💛 As we learned in our staff meeting this week, effective schools are those that trust in each other. Many of you have commented on the power of how our thoughts, feelings, and actions affect our students and their learning. As we work together to build trust and support each other, remember that lifting others when they are down is part of building our culture of trust.

💙 Please remember that everyone should be cleaning up after themselves in the lounge! Please don't leave your dishes for others to wash. Thank you!

💛 Our late start meeting for certified staff will be at Brown School this week. We will learn the timeline for our HVAC construction that will occur this year! If you are in the building early that day and notice that many people are missing now you know why. The meeting will end at 8:45, and we will return to Lincoln after that.

💙 If you want to do a learning walk, please let me know what your optimal time would be. If our new building sub, Trena Sanders, is not subbing in a classroom, we can send her your way! Learning from each other is a way to elevate our trust, learn best practices, collaborate with team members, and be the best we can be! I would love to help you with this!

💛 As we kick off reading month this week, you are welcome to wear jeans if it fits your dress-up day wardrobe better :0)

💙 Keep in mind that Flashlight Friday can bring big emotions for students that forget to bring flashlights. Prepare students ahead of time for when flashlights will be used and how they can be shared between groups for anyone that forgets or doesn't have one available.

Please Welcome Our New Building Sub--TRENA SANDERS!

We are so fortunate that we now have our very own building sub! You have probably seen Trena around already. She has taken the time to introduce herself to some of you. Trena brings a great deal of experience with her and has proven herself to be very effective with our students. Trena has the ability to quickly form connections with students while lovingly maintaining high expectations for classroom routines and behaviors. Please take a moment to introduce yourself and welcome Trena to our building when you see her!

Please check out our Reading Month website to be in the know, as some of the fun starts right NOW!

Important Dates to Remember:

February 27 through March 3: Dress Up Days (please see photo). Please share photos from the dress-up days here.

Wednesday, March 1: All door decorating needs to be completed.

Monday, March 6 through Friday, March 10: Take your student on a "gallery walk" through the building to see all of the creative doors.

Friday, March 10: Ruth McNally Barshaw Author Visit Day in the Media Center! I will communicate the schedule for each presentation soon.

We will be providing students with a small notebook that they will use during Ruth's presentation; please have students bring a pencil with them when they come for the presentation.

Wednesday, March 8 through Monday, March 13: A Google Form will be sent to you so you and your students can vote on their favorite door. Voting needs to be completed by Monday, March 13, at the end of the school day.

Wednesday, March 15: The winning classrooms will be revealed and will have donuts delivered to their classroom!

Thanks for all you do to foster book love in our students. You make a difference!

Please let us know if there is anything we can do to support you this reading month and beyond,

Julia and Sarah
