Family Update
September 19th 2025
Principal's Message
The honeymoon phase is certainly over and students are settling in their routines. While most are living the West Way, some students are struggling to make that adjustment. Some choices I have seen have been running in the halls, physical horseplay and tardiness to class. Please take a moment to speak with your student about living the West Way and practicing the expectations.

Students interested in Winter/Spring Sports
Parents/Guardians, please log in to FinalForms and update your child’s profile for the 2025–26 Winter and Spring athletic seasons. Be sure to checkmark any sport(s) your student-athlete may be interested in. Completing this now helps us plan, communicate, and prepare your Lion for the season!

Team Tressel Fitness Challenge
We are excited to share a fun opportunity for GMSW students and families!
Our school is proud to participate in the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge, a statewide initiative led by Ohio Lt. Governor Jim Tressel and the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce. The challenge strives to help students form healthy habits in physical activity, nutrition, and sleep through individual goal setting.
Here’s how it works:
· The challenge will take place over 90 days, from September to December, and is intended to be completed outside of school hours as well as in PE classes.
· Each student received a challenge workbook on Wednesday to guide them through three levels beginning at Bronze, then going on to Silver, and ending at Gold.
· At each level, students will use their workbooks to set personal goals and track progress in the core areas of physical activity, nutrition, and sleep.
· When the challenge is completed, every student participating will receive a certificate signed by Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Tressel.
I encourage you to support your child at home by helping them stay active, prepare healthy meals, and maintain consistent sleep routines. If you have any questions, please reach out to our PE department.

6th Grade Updates
On Friday, September 26th, our 6th grade students will participate in Adventure Day at Gahanna Middle School West. This special event is designed to build teamwork, character, and problem-solving skills in a fun and safe environment. Students will take part in exciting activities such as a rock climbing wall, GaGa Ball, 18 Square-in-the-Air, team building games, a video game truck, a bungee run inflatable, and even enjoy a snow cone station. Since this will be a very active day, students should dress comfortably and wear tennis shoes for climbing activities. Students have received permission slips that must be signed and returned in order to participate. Adventure Day will run rain or shine, with a reschedule only in case of severe weather.
