A Note from Principal Burke

As we send our final newsletter of the school year, I want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible growth our students have made. Their hard work, perseverance, and progress this year are something to be very proud of and I am so proud to be their principal! As we head into summer, we encourage families to help students keep that growth going. Reading daily, limiting screen time, playing games, and simply having conversations with your children are powerful ways to keep their minds active and engaged. Most importantly, we hope our Blue Jays enjoy a wonderful summer break. Get outside, play, explore, laugh, and experience the joy and wonder that summer brings. We are so proud of our students and cannot wait to see them continue to shine!

Mrs. Burke

Support Needed:

Families, we want to make you aware that we have recently seen an increase in discipline concerns connected to things happening outside of school, including group chats, text messages, TikToks, and other online interactions. While many of these situations begin outside of school hours and off school property, they are carrying over into the school day and interrupting learning. Elementary students are still young and need extra guidance, supervision, and support when using phones, tablets, and other electronic devices. Please take time to talk with your child about the responsibility that comes with having access to a phone or device, including the importance of kindness, appropriate communication, and thinking before posting or sending messages. We also ask that families remain vigilant in monitoring online activity. Thank you in advance for partnering with us to help curb problems before they make their way into the schoolhouse and impact our students’ learning environment.

Congratulations on your Retirement!

We would like to take a moment to celebrate and congratulate Mrs. Miller on her retirement after 25 years at Barnhart and more than 30 years in education. Having a teacher dedicate that many years to one school community is truly a blessing, and we are the lucky ones to have had her love, commitment, and care poured into generations of Blue Jays. Mrs. Miller has made a lasting impact on our students, families, and staff, and her presence will always be part of Barnhart’s story. We wish her a retirement filled with joy, rest, adventure, and all of the things she loves most. Congratulations, Mrs. Miller!

Summer Meals

Charles County Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) is offering the Meals on the Move program this summer. The program will run June 24 through Aug. 7 at three designated sites in Charles County. The meal truck will be operated by CCPS food and nutrition services (FNS) staff.

At the sites, children ages 2 to 18 can receive free cold breakfasts and lunches to go for multiple days. The CCPS food truck will visit the sites on specific days to distribute meals in rural areas as determined by the USDA. Meals will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis at all sites and while supplies last.

The Meals on the Move schedule can be found here:

Please complete: Annual Title 1 District Family Survey

Please take a few minutes to complete the Annual Title I District Level Family Engagement Survey. Your feedback is very important to us, and we will keep your responses strictly confidential. If you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Bowling, Title I Family & Program Coordinator, at jbowling@ccboe.com or 301-392-5552. Thank you!

2026-2027 School Supplies

We are excited to share some wonderful news with our families! Thanks to our new community grant, Barnhart will be able to purchase all school supplies for students for the 2026–2027 school year. Families will only need to provide a backpack, a lunchbox if your child will not be getting lunch at school, and a water bottle. We are so grateful to be able to support our families in this way and help make the start of the school year a little easier for everyone!

Registration:

Registration is now open for the 2026–2027 school year for Pre-K 3, Pre-K 4, Kindergarten, and all other grade levels. Please remember that Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 require an application, and not all students who apply are accepted into these programs. Applications and registration information for all grade levels can be found online at www.ccboe.com and through your ParentVUE portal. Please note that registrations are not completed at the school building, so families should complete the process and upload all documents online. If you will be moving out of our zone over the summer, please contact Ms. Queen before the end of the school year so that we can get documents ready for your next school.
