Shaun Johnson
DeSoto West Middle School
8th Grade Math & Algebra I Teacher
With six years of educational experience—all proudly served within DeSoto ISD—Shaun Johnson brings dedication, compassion, and leadership to the classroom as an eighth grade math and Algebra I teacher at DeSoto West Middle School. Known for his strong connections with students and unwavering commitment to their growth, Johnson focuses on not just academic excellence but on shaping well-rounded individuals.
For Johnson, the heart of teaching lies in making a meaningful impact on students’ lives—especially during middle school, a critical time when students are discovering who they are. One of his most powerful teaching moments came when a student, after a heartfelt conversation about life and decision-making, shared that Shaun had become their role model. Moments like these reaffirm his purpose and drive his passion for teaching.
Johnson meets his students where they are and works collaboratively with them to set clear, achievable goals. He believes in pushing students to meet those goals with no excuses—supporting them every step of the way. This intentional, student-centered approach fosters both accountability and self-confidence in his classroom.
Being recognized as DeSoto West Middle School Teacher of the Year by his peers is not only an honor but also a validation of the hard work and heart he brings to education every day. It has already inspired him to take the next step in his professional journey—pursuing his principal certification this summer.
Shaun Johnson is a shining example of what it means to lead with purpose, teach with impact, and serve with heart. His influence is felt far beyond the walls of his classroom, and his dedication continues to elevate the entire campus community.
