Adventure Family Newsletter: August 15
Welcome to the 2025-26 School Year at Adventure Elementary!
Dear Adventure Families,
This week may go down in history as the smoothest start to any school year ever! Our experienced staff worked so hard to prepare for your children and it paid off! Kids adjusted to the school routines quickly and, for the most part, pretty easily! Students and teachers spent time this week getting to know each other, connecting with friends--old and new, and setting themselves up for a year of learning. On Tuesday, we will welcome our preschoolers on their first day! Thank you for all you do at home to start the year off positively.
Next week, our parent volunteer group is hosting a social for interested parents. They'll share the ways the group contributes to the Adventure community through fundraising, family engagement events, and more. Please join us next Friday at 2:15 for this fun kick-off! The group will hold meetings the first Friday of each month at 2:15.
We're looking forward to another joyful and learning-filled school year. You can expect to receive these emailed Family Newsletters every other Friday morning. They're important to read as we include important information, announcements, and celebrations.
Saludos,
Sarah and Marisa

Arrival and Dismissal Details
*****Starting on Monday, we ask that all parents/guardians say goodbye to their students outside the school building. Thank you!*****
Arrival:
- Breakfast begins at 7:50. Breakfast is free for all students and is served in the cafeteria for K-6. PK students eat all meals in the classroom.
- K-6 students will enter the building through the cafeteria between 7:50 and 8:00. Students who arrive after 8:05 are considered tardy and will need to enter through the main entrance and get a tardy pass.
- PK arrival is at the classroom doors at the session start time.
- When using the Hug & Go lane, please pull all the way forward to the cone.
Dismissal:
- All K-6 students will be dismissed outside at 3:10. Walkers, or students whose parents plan to meet their student, will exit to the back (north) side of the building. Bus riders also dismiss to the back of the building to meet the busses.
- Any student being picked up by a car in the Hug and Go lane will be dismissed to the front of the school. Please display the numeric car tag from your rearview mirror. Call the front office to request a car tag, if needed.
- PK dismissal is from the classroom doors at the end of the session time.
- We ask that families of each K-6 student complete the following brief survey to help our staff know your child's dismissal plan.
- When using the Hug & Go lane, please pull all the way forward to the cone.
Parking:
- The first row of the main parking lot is reserved for PK parents who need to walk the youngest students to and from the building each day.
- K-6 students that are being dropped off or picked up by car should use the Hug & Go Lane in the front of the building. Please pull all the way forward.
- There is no parking available in the main lot for K-6 families from 7:50-8:05 and 3:00-3:20. Please use the nearby streets.
- Also, please avoid parking on the west side of Conifer as our Hug & Go lane traffic uses that space. The upper parking lot is also closed for bus loading and unloading only.
School Safety
The safety of your children is our number one priority. We believe that school safety is the responsibility of each of us, so I'm sharing some of our procedures this week to help assure you that we are prepared. Teachers also talk with the students about school safety on a regular basis. If you ever have school safety concerns, please reach out by calling the main office and asking to speak to either the principal or assistant principal. We recognize that this topic brings fear and anxiety and we are sensitive to individuals who need additional support.
One of the most important ways families can support our school's safety is by following our visitor procedures. While, we allowed parents to enter the building with students this past week, this is not our standard procedure. Starting on Monday, all visitors to the school will be required to register in the office and wear a visitor pass.
All exterior doors are locked at our school, with the exception being the first door to the main office. Please use the intercom to gain access to the front office. Also, when leaving the building, please make sure that all doors close tightly behind you.
Adventure works closely with a team of School Resource Officers from the Adams County Sheriff's Department. Deputy Hessler is our primary SRO and families can expect to see him and his colleagues at Adventure frequently, they often visit for non-emergency reasons.
Safety Drills
Each year, our school practices school safety drills; these rehearsals help everyone feel more comfortable with the protocols, in the event of a true emergency. We practice evacuation drills each month, shelter protocols twice a year, and secure and lockdown drills annually (as required by law).
- Shelter: this protocol is used most often in the event of a tornado or bad weather. All students and staff move to the ground floor and away from windows and doors.
- Evacuate: this protocol is used in case of fire. Everyone quickly leaves the building and moves away from it.
- Secure: Administration or Adams County Sheriff's Department call a "secure" drill when there is police activity in the vicinity of the school. No one is allowed in or out of the building; so, outdoor recess is cancelled and school visitors aren't permitted. Aside from additional precaution about entering or leaving the building, students and staff hold business as usual indoors. Usually, "secure" events are brief.
- Lockdown: This protocol is used when there is danger inside our school building. At the push of a button, all exterior and pod doors close and lock. Students and staff move out of sight from any exterior windows and remain quiet until Adams County Sheriff's Department releases us.
In addition to these drills, we also have protocols that we follow in the event of threats. A school-based team investigates each and every threat to determine credibility and identify next steps. Mapleton Safety and Security as well as Mental Health team members join our threat assessment team as requested.
Meal Benefit Applications
At Mapleton Public Schools, we believe every child should have the fuel they need to learn, grow, and thrive. That’s why we’re proud to participate in Colorado’s Healthy School Meals for All program—offering free breakfast and lunch to every student, every school day.
Even though meals are free, we encourage every family to fill out the 2025–26 Meal Benefit Application (English Link) (Spanish Link). Completing this quick form can unlock extra support for your family and additional resources for our schools!
Benefits for your family may include:
- Opportunities for school-related fee waivers
- Discounted internet, phone, and utility services
- SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, or FDPRI
Benefits for your child’s school may include:
- Classroom resources (from books to technology to teachers!)
- Before and after school enrichment activities
- Health and wellness services
We know the application asks for personal information, and we want you to feel confident that your privacy is protected. Your application and eligibility status are confidential by federal law and can only be seen by those directly involved with the school meal program. Your application information remains private and is protected at all times.
Completing your Meal Benefit Application is a small step that makes a big difference for your family, your school, and our Mapleton community. Only one form is needed per household, and a new form must be submitted each school year.
