We are already preparing for the 2025-26 School Year. If your child is rising into Grades 3, 4, and 5, you'll want to take note of a change that is happening across all SMCPS elementary schools. Beginning next year, the band and strings programs will be offered during the student's regularly scheduled "specials" block. This means that students will have the choice to participate in general music OR one of these instrumental specialties. Band and strings satisfy the curricular requirements for music instruction. Chorus (for 4th and 5th grade students) will remain a pull-out program, meaning students would miss a portion of their academic instruction in order to participate.

Please consider talking with your child about these options. 3rd grade students will be offered the opportunity to join strings, while 4th and 5th grade students have the opportunity to join band or strings. An interest form will be sent home to you in the upcoming week. We ask that you consider your child's interest and the options for acquiring an instrument. Your commitment to participation before the start of the school year will help us move forward with scheduling.
