DOJ/FBILiveScan-Volunteers
Senate Bill 848 (SB 848) expands child abuse prevention and school safety requirements for California private schools, including Catholic schools. Effective January 1, 2026, the law broadens the categories of individuals who must meet school safety requirements, including certain volunteers, board members, and contractors who have contact with students. As part of these enhanced pupil safety measures, private schools must ensure that individuals complete DOJ/FBI fingerprint-based background checks (Live Scan) and comply with mandated reporter training and other child protection requirements before or while serving in roles involving student contact.
Volunteers are no longer required to complete the CMG Selection.com Background Check. In addition to employees, all volunteers are now required to complete the DOJ/FBI Live Scan.
CMG CONNECT - DEFENSIVE DRIVING TRAINING & SAFETY ENVIRONMENT
The DOJ/FBI Live Scan requirement only needs to be completed once, provided the individual remains continuously employed or actively volunteers within the school or organization. A new Live Scan may be required if there is a break in service or if otherwise directed by the Office for Schools.
Mandated Reporter Training
All volunteers are now required to complete the Mandated Reporter Training. Administrators will be able to assign and monitor completion of the training on the Mandated Reporter Training Platform. There is a charge of approximately $4.50.
Parent Letter to inform parents about the enactment of SB 848.
"How to Accept an Invitation from Your Organization"
THIS IS A REQUIREMENT FOR ALL DRIVER AND NON-DRIVER VOLUNTEERS TO COMPLETE THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS FOR COMPLIANCE.

IMPORTANT: BAPTISM REQUIREMENT FOR 2027 FOR SACRAMENTS
If you are interested in having your child receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Eucharist, they will need to be baptized before the first day of school.
If a baptism date has already been scheduled before our February 2027 Reconciliation, we will absolutely honor that. However, if arrangements still need to be made, please contact the parish office as soon as possible to schedule your child’s Sacrament of Baptism. The parish phone number is (858) 454-2631. This will allow your child to continue preparing for their First Reconciliation in February of 2027 and First Holy Communion in May 2027.
Please contact Elicia if you need any assistance — I am happy to help guide you through the process.
