Claggett Counselor Corner Claggett Counselor Corner

Hello and welcome to another exciting year at Claggett Middle School! We would like to take this opportunity to introduce our counseling department and highlight our SEL focus for the month.

First - meet our counselors!

  • Mr. Kevin Miller - school counselor for all 6th grade (Luminaries and Space Pirates) and 7th grade Apollo.

  • Adrienne Jackson - school counselor for 7th grade Mercury and all 8th grade (Nebula and Supernova).

  • Deonna Dirham - prevention counselor for grades 6th, 7th, and 8th.

As a trio, Mr. Miller, Mrs. Jackson, and Mrs. Dirham work to support the needs of all our students. We provide solution-focused counseling to help students access the supports needed within our building and with outside agencies for therapy and community supports. Please check out the school counseling website for resources and tools that might be helpful for your student.

Additionally, each week on Wednesdays, students are spending about 10 minutes during 1st period focusing on SEL instruction. The theme for September was exploring and promoting growth mindset. Each month, we will build on previous themes and we encourage you to talk with your student(s) about these themes to help build their social and emotional awareness. Check out this video to learn a little bit more about how we are talking about growth mindset during our lessons.
