Principal's Note Principal's Note

Dear Memorial Families,

Well, we sure are settled right in to our school year now! The kids are all doing great and working hard! The best part? How KIND our students are! Please give them all a pat on the back from me. We really do have amazing students at MMES!

We are seeking to fill a Parent Representative position on our Memorial School Council. The term length is two years.

The School Council is comprised of a balance of school staff representatives and parent representatives. The Principal serves as one of the co-chairs along with one other parent or staff co-chair (elected by the members of the council).

Meetings are held in-person at MMES from 3:00-4:00 PM, on a school day TBD.
The School Council assists the Principal in:

* Identifying the educational needs of students attending the school
* Reviewing the annual school building budget
* Formulating an annual school improvement plan

For more information on school councils, please visit https://www.doe.mass.edu/lawsregs/advisory/schoolcouncils/appx.html

If you would like to be a candidate for the school council as a Parent Representative, please email Principal Willis ( willisj@mersd.org ) by September 11, 2024 with a brief description of your background and why you want to serve the MMES community as a parent representative. If more than one candidate steps forward, an in-person election will take place at our Open House on September 12, 2024.

Have a great weekend!

Best,

John

Front Office Update Front Office Update

We are very excited to welcome students back to Memorial. Here are a few important notes to get us all off to a good start:

Please look at our calendar below for updated end of year activities.

District Calendar is available on our website - Check out the newly published district calendar for 2024-2025: Calendar

Reminder - No phones or smart watches during school day

CORI requirements - We love having volunteers and mystery readers back in the building. Please note that all adults must have a completed CORI on file before filling volunteer or mystery reader positions and will not be admitted without one. Please plan to come in at least one week before your scheduled volunteer time to complete your paperwork. CORIs are good for 3 years. Please contact the office to see if yours is valid.

Absence, Late Arrival, and Early Dismissal:

Please plan to email your student's teacher, Nurse Morrissey (MorrisseyJ@mersd.org), and the office (schmidtm@mersd.org) with all attendance updates: Absence, Late Arrival, Early dismissal. This will allow us to coordinate with your teachers.

Students who need to be dismissed early, must be released to a parent or guardian from the main office. When possible, please notify the office and your child's teacher ahead of time. When you arrive for early dismissal, your student will be called from the classroom. Please be prepared to show your ID if we are not familiar with you.

My name is Jaclyn Morrissey and I look forward to this school year as your school nurse. I couldn't be more excited to meet you all and want to thank you for welcoming me into this MERSD family. One of my favorite memories of this summer was spending time at the beach with my children. One thing I look forward to and am eager for is a healthy, bright, and positive year.

Best,

Nurse Morrissey

Hi Hornets, I am incredibly excited for the start of this school year! What a celebration yesterday morning was. I am thrilled to see both returning and new faces. I’m Ms. Xiarhos (more easily known as Ms. X) and I’m lucky to be Memorial’s Adjustment Counselor. My role is to support students experiencing a variety of social/emotional challenges that impact their school days. I also contribute to the School Newsletter with thoughts and ideas as well as information from other professionals and experts to support you and your learners throughout the year.

These first few weeks are always a period of adjustment. Sometimes the creation of a parting/ ‘goodbye’ routine can ease any drop off worries or concerns. A special handshake, phrase at car drop off or the turf can ease the separation for both parents and students. Remember, an adjustment period is normal as students begin to learn about their new classrooms, teachers, schedules, and peers.

A big welcome back to our MMES Community!

  • Ms. X
