Dear North High Families,

Welcome back! We had a fantastic opening week at North High School, and the school year is officially in full swing. It has been great to have our students back in the building, reconnecting with friends and staff and settling into their classes.

Student Pickup

We need your help keeping our bus loading area safe and our buses on schedule at the end of the school day. We ask that students and families not enter the area under the skywalks for student pickup until 3:15 p.m.

We understand that using this area may make pickup more convenient; however, vehicles and students in the bus loading area before 3:15 can interfere with buses arriving, loading, and departing safely and on time. Our buses transport North Middle and North High students home before continuing to our elementary schools for after school routes, so staying on schedule is especially important.

Thank you for helping us keep this area safe and allowing our buses to remain on schedule. We appreciate your cooperation!

Schedule Changes — Deadline: September 4

Please be aware of an important upcoming deadline. Students have the first 10 school days to request changes to their schedules. For first semester, the deadline to add or drop a course is September 4 at the end of the school day (12:55 p.m.).

After September 4, schedule changes will not be permitted without an F being recorded on the student's transcript for a dropped course. Please encourage your student to review their schedule now and address any concerns before the deadline.

If you have questions about your student's schedule, please contact their grade-level counselor or principal.

Homecoming Week: September 21–25

Homecoming Week 2026 is right around the corner! Our Student Council has planned a variety of activities throughout the week, and you can find all the details later in this newsletter.

Homecoming Week concludes on Friday, September 25, with the Homecoming Dance at North Middle from 8:00–11:00 p.m.

Each year, we receive questions about eligibility to attend the dance. Eligibility requirements are outlined below and include expectations related to grades, attendance, and behavior. Please carefully review these requirements with your student ahead of time so everyone understands the expectations.

Homecoming Dance Tickets

  • Tickets will be sold September 21–24.
  • Tickets are $10.
  • Tickets will NOT be sold at the dance.
  • All tickets must be purchased in advance.

A Great Start

Finally, I want to thank our students, families, and staff for helping us have such a positive start to the school year. With over 1,500 students in our building, we have been incredibly pleased with how smoothly the year has begun. Students are doing a great job in classrooms, hallways, and our lunch areas, allowing us to keep the focus where it belongs—on learning.

The North High staff is looking forward to an outstanding year. If you have questions or concerns about your student's school experience, please don't hesitate to reach out. Often, a quick phone call, email, or meeting can address a concern before it becomes a larger issue.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Let's have a great year, Stars!

Start the Day with Breakfast

Studies show a strong connection between eating breakfast and improved academic performance. To support a healthy learning environment, our school provides breakfast daily in addition to lunch. Breakfast is served at our building from 7 am to 8 am.

If your student qualifies for free or reduced meals, you will need to complete the online application if you have not done so already.

Families that do not qualify for free or reduced meals can deposit money into their student’s MySchoolBucks account. Information on meal prices for the 2026-2027 school year is available on the District’s website.

For questions or assistance with school meals, please contact the District’s Food Service Department at 712-279-6860 or 712-279-6862.

School Safety School Safety

The safety of our students and staff is paramount. The District uses Standard Response Protocol or common terms to communicate our actions and response in emergency situations. The terms Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter are used so students, staff, and first responders understand the situation and how best to respond.

We encourage families to become familiar with these terms to better understand our school’s response and what to expect in a crisis. For more information on safety preparedness within the District, visit siouxcityschools.org.

Have a Safety Concern?

Safe + Sound Iowa offers students and families a convenient way to anonymously report safety concerns related to our school. Trained dispatchers will share the information with appropriate school administrators and/or law enforcement so help can be given to those in crisis or at risk.

Visit Safe + Sound Iowa for more information.
