June 2025
Dear Avon Lake Families,
I want to take a moment to commend our students and staff for their hard work, perseverance, and dedication throughout this school year. It has been inspiring to watch our school community continue to grow and achieve together. Commencement was an amazing event!
The week of June 2nd marked the final push toward the finish line. It is an exciting time filled with milestones and well-earned recognition of the efforts and achievements of our students. We wish our graduates the best in the next chapter of their lives!
A key factor in this successful year has been the active involvement and support of our stakeholders, families, community members, and partners. Your engagement has made a meaningful difference, and we thank you for being an essential part of our shared success.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support in making our school a place of excellence, growth, and opportunity.
Please note the ALHS summer days/hours listed in the newsletter and work permit information.
Take care,
Michael J. May, Principal

Back to School Forms for the 2025-26 School Year
Over the summer months you will receive an email notifying you to complete your student's back-to-school forms via your PowerSchool Parent Account. All forms are to be completed prior to the first day of school. This is a one-stop shop for updating your child’s emergency and medical information as well as signing off on the annual permission forms for school district policies.
If you have more than one child in the school system, you only need one PowerSchool Parent Account. All of your children, regardless of building attendance, are to be added to your one account BEFORE you start completing the back-to-school forms.
If you have any questions about your PowerSchool Parent Account, please contact:
- Maria Szarek - (440) 933-4829 or
- Theresa Martin - (440) 933-0984
Band Notes
As the end of the school year comes to a close the Avon Lake HS Band program had and amazing "Pops" Concert featuring songs from Disney and John Williams. Their next performance came on May 26 in which Your Marching Shoremen performed in the Memorial Day parade and ceremony to honor all of those who sacrificed themselves for this country. Our final performance of the year will be performing "Pomp and Circumstance" for our Seniors as they celebrate their graduation.
The 2024-2025 year has been a significant one for this band program. The Marching Shoremen earned a Superior Rating at State Marching Finals (the last time was 2019), traveled to Indiana to watch and celebrate the Music for All, Bands of America Grand National Marching Championships, Both Concert and Symphonic Bands earned Superior Ratings at the District 4 OMEA Large Group Adjudicated Event, and we will have 3 (possibly 4) members joining Drum Corps International to perform this summer all over this country.
Thank you to all for supporting this band program and I cannot wait to get things going again this fall!

News From Our Nurse
The Ohio Department of Health requires that *2 doses of MCV4-Meningococcal vaccine be administered before a student enters 12th grade. This vaccine protects against meningitis. You will need to show proof of your current 11th grader having received these vaccines before he or she can return to school in the Fall of 2025. We hope that by sharing this information with you now, you will be able to follow up with your child’s physician to be sure proper vaccines are in place.
If you would like more information on meningitis, please use the following link https://www.cdc.gov/meningococcal/
*If the first dose of MCV4 was administered on or after the 16th birthday, a second dose is not required. Ohio Revised Code (Section 3313.671) requires “exclusion” on the 15th day of school entrance of all pupils who do not meet the above requirements.
