November 3-9, 2024

Good morning Cannon families,

WOW! What a FANTASTIC week! We united across the nation to celebrate Red Ribbon Week; an annual campaign dedicated to promoting drug-free lifestyles and encouraging our Cubs to make healthy, positive choices. Red Ribbon week is about so much more than just dressing up, but we definitely had fun spreading the word to focus on positive choices for a BRIGHT future. A BIG SHOUT OUT to Mandy Coburn, our CAN Counselor, for arranging and facilitating a week focused on our Cubs and their BRIGHT future!

Friday we held our 4th annual STEMapalooza! Our scholars engaged in several STEM design challenges, utilizing the Engineering Design Process, to engineer solutions to real world problems. This year our theme was water! All of our TEKS-aligned challenges focused on water so the mist and rain did not slow our scholars down. Our four CORE CANNON STEM PILLARS (Curriculum, Culture, Community, and College, Career, Military Readiness) electrifies our campus everyday, but this week was amplified. Please help me give our STEMtastic Staff a HUGE SHOUT OUT for their continued dedication to design and deliver memorable learning experiences for our Cubs!

Cannon PTA Fall Calendar FUNdraiser Celebration!

Our Fall Calendar Fundraiser allowed our PTA to raise over $7,000! Leading classes and our leading grade-level (4th grade), had the FUN in FUNdraiser this past Friday to wrap our Red Ribbon Week! It was an absolute HOOT and our Cubs had a BLAST! A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR DONORS! Also, huge applause to Kathy Florence Spradley, our fantastic school board trustee liaison, for always showing up and supporting our campus events! We LOVE our PTA partnership! WE ARE CANNON PROUD!

GCISD Holiday Greeting Card Art Contest

All elementary, middle, and high school students are invited to submit original artwork for the cover of GCISD’s official holiday greeting card. This year’s theme is "Show Others Kindness." Three student designs—one each from the elementary, middle, and high school levels—will be selected and sent out on behalf of the GCISD Board of Trustees and Superintendent Dr. Brad Schnautz. Cards are sent to community leaders, area businesses, organizations, and other school districts.

  • Each student will submit their artwork to their campus art teacher or other designee.

  • Each school will select campus-based winners whose art will then be submitted to the district level for final selection.

  • Each high school will choose up to 10 finalists; each middle school will choose up to 5 finalists; and each elementary will choose up to 3 finalists. Final designs for the cover will be selected by the Superintendent and his designees based on originality, the theme, use of the elements of art, and overall design.

The three students whose works are selected for the GCISD Holiday Greeting Card will receive $25 and recognition at the December meeting of the Board of Trustees. The selected artwork and the artists’ names will be featured on the district’s website and used in district publicity.

Please see your school's art teacher for entry forms.
