A Message from the Principal
What a way to begin the 2026–2027 school year! I want to start by thanking our Green Knight community for showing up in such a big way for our Welcome Back Event on August 25. It was wonderful to see students and families reconnecting with teachers, exploring our clubs, organizations, and athletic programs, picking up schedules, enjoying our food trucks and music, and simply being together as a community.
Even better was welcoming our students back into the building. Our seniors began their final first day at Mount with a Senior Breakfast and class photo before ending the day with Ms. Hann-Deschaine to begin important conversations about post-secondary planning. Our freshmen spent the day getting oriented to their new school, meeting teachers and new friends, and celebrating the start of their high school journey with an ice cream social. On Thursday, we welcomed everyone back, and students rotated through all eight of their classes. The building was alive again. There is something special about having the heart of our school—the students—back in our halls. It gets pretty lonely around here during the summer without them!
As we move into our first full weeks together, there is plenty ahead. Our Back to School Night is Wednesday, September 2, at 6:00 p.m., and we look forward to opening our doors to parents and families to walk their student's schedule, visit classrooms, and meet the teachers who will support them this year. We are also continuing to distribute Chromebooks to our freshmen, so families should be sure to complete the BSD Student Device Loan Agreement if they have not already done so.
Finally, one thing stood out to me more than anything during our opening days: the kindness of this school community. As a new principal alongside several new members of our staff, I watched our students welcome us with open arms and immediately make us feel like part of the Green Knight family. There is so much good in our halls, and these first few days have been a powerful reminder of what makes Mount such a special place.
I am excited for what we will build together this year.
One School. One Community. We ARE!

Green Knight Headlines
Back to School Night: Our Open House
We invite all Green Knight families to join us for Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 2, at 6:00 p.m. This event serves as our annual Open House and provides families with an opportunity to follow their student’s schedule, visit classrooms, meet teachers, and learn more about the academic programs and opportunities available at Mount Pleasant. We look forward to welcoming you into our school and strengthening the partnership between our families and staff as we begin the 2026–2027 school year.
On Time. Every Time. Hall Sweeps Begin Monday
Being on time matters. Repeated tardiness can cause students to miss important instruction, directions, assignments, and opportunities to engage with their teachers and classmates. Beginning Monday, August 31, Mount Pleasant will implement progressive disciplinary responses for repeated tardiness to school and to class. Hall sweeps will be conducted throughout the school day to help reinforce our expectation that every Green Knight is in class, on time, and ready to learn.
Our goal is bigger than simply reducing tardiness. We want to help students develop habits of accountability, responsibility, and readiness that contribute to success in school and beyond. Families can support us by reinforcing the importance of arriving at school and to each class on time.
Dress Code Expectations
As we settle into the school year, we recognize that students are still transitioning from the summer months. However, we have noticed an increase in students who are not meeting the Brandywine School District dress code expectations, particularly regarding hats, hoods, and other head coverings, as well as shirts that do not fully cover the shoulders, chest, and midriff.
The District’s dress code is designed to promote an appropriate, safe, and academic learning environment where clothing does not create unnecessary distractions or disruptions. We ask families to please review these expectations with their students and help ensure they arrive at school dressed appropriately each day. Our goal is to maintain a positive learning environment in which every Green Knight has full access to learning in a setting that is focused, orderly, and free from unnecessary distractions.
4th Annual Culture Night: A Knight Around the World
Save the date for Mount Pleasant High School’s 4th Annual Culture Night: A Knight Around the World on Tuesday, October 20, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. throughout the MPHS Cafeteria, Student Center, and Gym! Students, families, and staff are invited to join us for an evening celebrating the cultures that make our Green Knight community so vibrant through food, games, performances, history, and more.
We are currently seeking student and staff table hosts, performers, and volunteers to help bring the evening to life. Whether you want to showcase your culture, share a talent, or simply help make the event a success, we would love to have you involved!

Student Chromebooks & Device Loan Agreement
Mount Pleasant is a 1:1 technology school, and all students are expected to use a district-issued Chromebook for their instructional technology needs. All freshmen will receive a new Chromebook this year; however, a device cannot be issued until the BSD Student Device Loan Agreement has been reviewed and signed by the student and parent/guardian. Please complete the agreement as soon as possible to avoid delays in receiving a device.
Students should bring their fully charged district Chromebook to school each day and to all classes. Please note that only district-issued technology is supported in the building. Upperclassmen who believe they need a new or replacement device should see Mr. Bernard, who will assess the student's technology needs and work directly with the student and family to determine the appropriate next steps.
Picture Day is Coming!
Underclassman Picture Days are Wednesday, September 2, and Thursday, September 3! Students in grades 9–11 will report to the Auditorium with their Social Studies class to have their school picture taken. We encourage all students to come ready to smile!
Student Accident Insurance
Families have the option to purchase Voluntary Student Accident Insurance for the 2026–2027 school year. Please review the information below for details regarding available coverage, enrollment, and associated costs.

Study Halls & Senior Schedules
As we begin the 2026–2027 school year, study halls will be available to juniors and seniors only and will be provided on an as-needed basis. Juniors are expected to maintain a rigorous schedule of at least six to seven courses. Seniors are also expected to maintain a full course load unless they have been approved for an abbreviated schedule after meeting with their school counselor and Mr. Wells, Building Principal, and completing all required documentation.
Our goal is to ensure that every Green Knight maintains a rigorous and meaningful academic schedule while taking full advantage of the wide variety of courses and learning opportunities available at Mount Pleasant.
Student Schedules: What You Need to Know!
Our Counseling Team has created a Student Schedule Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) resource to help answer many common questions, including when schedules will be available, the criteria for requesting a change, processing timelines, and the September 30 deadline for schedule change requests.
We encourage students and families to review the FAQ before contacting their school counselor with scheduling questions.
The IB Connection
IB Students: Preparing for the Year Ahead
As we begin the school year, IB students should be prepared to submit any summer assignments to the teachers who assigned them. Juniors and seniors should also carefully review their schedules to ensure they are accurate as we prepare for IB examination registration in October.
Please remember that students enrolled in an IB course are required to sit for the corresponding IB examination in May and complete all required assessments throughout the school year. Last year, the examination fee was $124 per exam; information regarding this year’s testing fees will be shared once it becomes available. Exam fees are waived for students who qualify for free or reduced-price meals.
Celebrating Our Green Knights
A huge THANK YOU to our students and staff who helped make our Welcome Back Event such a success! A special shoutout to the Green Knights who represented our student clubs, organizations, and athletic teams, giving students and families a chance to see the many ways to get involved and find their place at Mount.
We appreciate everyone who gave their time, shared their passion, and helped us kick off the 2026–2027 school year with true Green Knight pride!
