Dear Fisler Families,

I hope everyone is enjoying today’s rain and having a wonderful Labor Day weekend. As a reminder, there is no school tomorrow, Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.

At Fisler, we have high academic standards, and we are so proud of our students for coming to school ready and prepared to learn. Being at school each and every day is incredibly important and gives students valuable opportunities to learn, grow, and connect with their teachers and classmates.

In addition to being at school each day, we know that learning does not stop when students leave Fisler. Parents and guardians, thank you for supporting your children’s education at home. Small moments spent reading together each day and encouraging your children to follow through on their homework go a long way. We truly appreciate your partnership!

September is a busy and exciting month with picture days, DELAC, school conferences, and our Family Movie Night. September is also Kindness Month, providing us with another wonderful opportunity to remind our students that small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

We also look forward to our Patriot Day celebration on Friday, September 11. We will remember those whose lives were lost on 9/11 and honor the members of our armed forces, emergency responders, and everyday heroes who serve our communities.

Enjoy the rest of your long weekend! We look forward to welcoming everyone back on Tuesday.

Warmly,

Caroline Llewellyn, Ed.D.

Middle School Snacks & My School Bucks

At Nutrition Break, all middle school students (6th–8th grade) may purchase snacks from the cafeteria. While cash is accepted, cash payments take longer to process. A quicker and more convenient option is to set up an account on My School Bucks. With an account, you can add funds that your child can access at the cafeteria simply by entering their student ID number. From there, they’ll be able to purchase snacks and drinks easily. You can upload and replenish funds at any time. To simplify the process, we encourage you to use this system.

Monthly Character Trait - KINDNESS

This month our character trait is: KINDNESS

Kindness is the act of being caring, generous, and empathetic toward others. At school, we foster kindness by creating a positive & supportive environment, but we also promote healthy relationships among students. Kind students are more likely to help their peers, contribute to a respectful atmosphere, and reduce instances of bullying or exclusion. We believe our school, and you at home, play a crucial role in shaping this character trait by creating a culture that encourages and celebrates kindness. During this month, students are being taught Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons through our Rethink Ed Curriculum. Also, our Leadership and Student Council students will be making weekly announcements about kindness and reminding students to spread kindness at our school!

Labor Day - No School on Monday, Sept. 7th

Labor Day is celebrated each year on the first Monday in September to honor the contributions and achievements of American workers. The holiday grew out of the labor movement in the late 1800s, when workers advocated for fair wages, safer working conditions, and reasonable working hours. The first Labor Day celebration took place in New York City in 1882, and in 1894, Labor Day became a federal holiday.

Today, Labor Day is a time to recognize and appreciate the hard work of people who help strengthen our communities and our country. It also marks the unofficial end of summer and the beginning of the fall season.

📅 Reminder: There will be NO SCHOOL for students on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day. We hope everyone enjoys a safe and relaxing long weekend!

Not only will F2AST have food for sale - but as a first-ever we are inviting our community-owned restaurants to the event.

Counseling Corner

Dear Fisler Families,

Helping Your Child Navigate Friendships

Friendships are an important part of a student’s school experience, but learning how to make and maintain healthy friendships can sometimes be challenging. Parents can support their children by creating a safe space to talk about friendships without immediately trying to solve the problem. Ask open-ended questions such as, “Who did you enjoy spending time with today?” or “Was there a time you felt left out or included?” Help your child recognize qualities of a healthy friendship, such as kindness, respect, trust, inclusion, and the ability to communicate and work through disagreements. Encourage respectful ways to express their feelings, set boundaries, apologize, and problem-solve. Please remind them that their feelings matter too.

Try This at Home: The Friendship Detective Activity
Choose a recent friendship situation your child experienced and work together to become “friendship detectives.” Ask: What happened? How did I feel? How might the other person have felt? What could I have done differently? What could I try next time? Together, identify one small action your child can take to strengthen a friendship, for example, inviting someone to join an activity, giving a genuine compliment, checking in with someone who seems alone or calmly talking through a disagreement. This activity helps children build empathy, self-awareness, communication, and problem-solving skills while giving parents an opportunity to listen and guide rather than simply provide answers.

Warm Regards,

Mrs. Conley
