8th Grade Preview of Upcoming Week

Math - Students will be taking their first checkpoint next week on Thursday and Friday. I will be taking a grade on how well students use their scrap paper. It is really important that students use scrap paper for everything! This has been drilled into them for a year. They know this....I can't wait to see the progress.

Reading : We will continue reading our Novel when we get back. We will finish our first Podcast. We will be practicing for the I-LEARN. Read a magazine article and then have a conversation about it with your parent/guardian.

Science Students will focus on reading and learning about Weather and Climate Module 2 Lesson 1.

Social Studies -We will be continuing our study of World Religions.

8th Grade Highlights from the Week

Math - Students worked hard learning how to write and graph inequalities. They saw how similar it is to equations and I think that they solidified their knowledge of equations at the same time. I love that when they stop talking they REALLY work hard for these skills 😉

Reading Students are doing a better job at annotation and textual clues. They are preparing their first Podcast over the Minerva Sisters.

Science - Students learning how to count atoms on a high school level

Social Studies -We began a new unit on World Religions this week. We will be studying Judaism, Islam, Christianity, and Buddhism. This week our focus was on Judaism and the students did an Arts Integration project to demonstrate their learning at the end of the week.

8th Graders - What to Practice with your Students this Week!!

Math - Students should be studying notes at home from the week right now.

Reading Students are doing a better job at annotation and textual clues.

Science - With the new 9 weeks starting after fall break, please talk to your scholar about the importance of focusing on classroom work. Since students are not allowed to bring home computers, they must get their work done during class time. It is also important that when given time to study for an exam, during class time, they use their time wisely and not spend their time talking, daydreaming or just refusing to work. These are some of the choices many students are making in class. Every one of my students capable of earning an "A " in science, the choice is theirs. Make sure they understand they are capable of anything and everything; all they have to do is try and make good choices.

Social Studies -We have a quiz over the class definitions each week (Every Thursday). Please ask your students if they have been studying their definitions. Please ask your students what they are learning in class!

7th Grade Highlights from the Week

Math- Students worked hard reviewing a couple skills from the beginning of the year. I was happy with how they worked independently while I worked with small groups. We will continue reviewing next week also.

Reading - Students are doing a better job at annotation and textual clues. Getting ready for the Socratic Seminar went well for them. The majority of the students did their work and handed it in on Wednesday.

Science - 7th grade has done wonderful learning how to take notes from their SmartBook. They were allowed to use them on their quiz, and they did very well and they were extremely proud of grades.

Social Studies -We began a new unit on World Religions this week. We will be studying Judaism, Islam, Christianity, and Buddhism. This week our focus was on Judaism and the students did an Arts Integration project to demonstrate their learning at the end of the week.

7th Grade - What to Practice with your Students this Week!

Math -Students should be studying notes at home from the week right now.

Reading - Practice following rules, be quiet when asked to be quiet. Students need to do their own work and hand it in. Also, remind them if a teacher is speaking they need to listen and not talk. These are things we are working on in class. A lot of work is not being done or finished because students are talking.
