Cello Act of Love

Mrs. Edwards and music classes would like to extend a HUGE thank you to the grandmother of Avery, Clara, Henry, Warren and Zane for loaning her cello to us last week. Students compared and contrasted the cello and the violin as they learned about the orchestral string instruments. Kindergarten students enjoyed listening to I Know a Shy Fellow Who Swallowed a Cello. Mrs. Smith was kind enough to allow students to "play" her cello. Mrs. Edwards is hoping many will one day learn to play an instrument. Thanks again Mrs. Smith!

Hard Rock Math Night and CIS Career Fair

Thank you so much to all of the parents and community members who came out to make our Hard Rock Math Night and CIS Career Fair so fun and amazing. Students and families were invited to a night of fun on Tuesday with free pizza, fun math stations, the Book Fair, and a CIS Career fair with community members who spoke on what makes their job so special. Students learned about careers in STEM, forestry, construction, health services, and plastics. While visiting with each booth every attendee was given a bingo card of questions to ask the speakers. If you got a bingo you were entered into a $100 gift card from Walmart. Carly Midkiff, PT, DPT of Benchmark Physical Therapy said, "the reason I got into physical therapy was, because of how amazing the body if and I wanted to help people take care of it" when speaking with Valley 4th grader Joshua. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported our students Tuesday.

VIES BOOK FAIR 📚 VIES BOOK FAIR 📚

Bulldog Book Fair

This week we had our Spring Book Fair at VIES and it was a HUGE success! Mrs. Harman would like to thank so many volunteers that helped make this book fair run so smoothly. Thank you to Mrs. Samuel, Ms. Widner, Mrs. Shortt for helping out during Hard Rock Math Night. Thanks to Mrs. Edwards who helped run the library check out several mornings during the week. Thanks to Mrs. Russell and Mrs. Cross for running the library check out, helping students count money (lots of pennies), and choose books from our wide selection. Thank you to Mrs. Buckles for all the love and support she gave to everyone, especially our students. Finally, all of the families and students who supported the book fair with their purchases! The money from the book fair goes directly back into our library with the purchase of books, STEM station activities, novel study books for classroom teachers, free books for our upcoming kindergarten and PK students, and much more! Valley Institute may be a small school, but it has a HEART for reading and supporting the students in our community! Thank you Valley Bulldogs!

Cooperation & Teamwork in Guidance

With our monthly character trait of Cooperation, Mr. Mason's Guidance classes used teamwork and worked together to create the largest towers out of stackable cups.

Mr. Mason said, "It is always interesting to see how students work together with this activity. Sometimes, students each have their own plan for the tower that is not the same as their partner, so some disagreements are expected."

For the most part, he finds everyone eventually agrees on one idea and they build the tower together. Afterwards, they follow up with questions, such as What was easy? What was difficult? How did you work out disagreements with your group?

For the month of March, we have focused on cooperation, what jobs utilize teamwork, and how people come together as a group to help others. Working with others is something they will do for the rest of their lives.
