Greetings SBA Families! March is upon us, and we hope the nicer weather we have been seeing becomes the norm. But as we know in South Dakota, winter likes to make an appearance or two during March. Whatever the weather, our Susan B. Anthony EAGLES continue to learn and grow each day. We had great attendance at our Parent Teacher Conferences last week, and we appreciate your partnership. If you missed your child's conference, please reach out to your child's teacher to set up an in-person time to meet or a phone conference.

We continue to work on our School Improvement Goals, which are focused on improving students' writing skills, math skills, and increasing our daily attendance percentage. In the past month, the flu bug has hit, and our attendance percentage has gone down. Let's hope we are about through flu season, and let's work to get our attendance above 95% each day. We will send updated data on our school improvement plan goals later this month as we wrap up our 3rd Quarter of learning. We will include ways for you to support your child's learning at home. Thank you for all you do to partner with us and support your child's learning!

March is a busy month, as you will see below. We will be welcoming our incoming 2026-27 Kindergarten students on Thursday, March 12th with our Kindergarten Kickoff. It's always fun to meet our future EAGLES and see their excitement. On March 19th we will celebrate some of our current EAGLES with our 3rd Quarter SOAR-ING EAGLE Recognition. If your child was nominated, you would have received an email with more information. We are excited to celebrate these students and all of our students who SOAR each day by demonstrating Safety, Ownership, Acceptance, and Respect!

KINDERGARTEN KICKOFF ~ THURSDAY, MARCH 12TH

On Thursday, March 12th we will welcome our newest SBA EAGLES to our team with our Kindergarten Kickoff. Families with incoming Kindergarten students are invited to bring your child to school between 3:30 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. You will be able bring birth certificates to be copied and complete your child's registration. Parents and students will also get to visit a Kindergarten classroom with one of our current teachers. We look forward to seeing our new EAGLES as we get ready to Kickoff their upcoming year in Kindergarten.

Jr. Kindergarten Academy ~ 2026 -27

Do you have a child that will be 5 on or before Sept. 1st 2026, but you are not quite sure they are ready for Kindergarten? The Sioux Falls School District offers a full-day Jr. Kindergarten Academy for students who are kindergarten eligible, but still need a little more time getting ready for the rigors of Kindergarten. On April 9th families can attend a Jr. Kdg. Academy screening night at JFK Elementary, Robert Frost Elementary, or Terry Redlin Elementary from 4:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. The Susan B. Anthony PTO continues to support our students and staff, while providing a variety of opportunities for families to engage at Susan B. Anthony. The PTO recently provided a conference meal for our hard-working SBA staff and the Book Fair for our families. These events are not possible without volunteers. We will have a big opportunity for volunteers coming up on May 1st when the PTO hosts our Bubble Fun Run fundraiser (our biggest fundraiser of the year!), and on May 15th when the PTO sponsors FAB FRIDAY for our students. You are encouraged to attend the April PTO meeting on Tuesday, March 30th to learn more. Volunteer sign up opportunities will also be sent via email closer to the events.

Science/STEM Fair ~ On April 10th, the PTO will host our annual Science/STEM Fair in conjunction with the SBA Art Show and Multicultural Event. The deadline for students to register for the Science/STEM Fair is Friday, March 27th. You can learn more in the SBA Science/STEM Fair flyer attached below. Your child also received a copy of the flyer to bring home in their Friday Folder on March 6th.
Bubble Fun Run ~ Our biggest fundraiser of the year will be a BUBBLE FUN RUN this year. Students will have the opportunity to run as many laps as they can on our "tracks" and through some bubbles. We will kick off the Bubble Fun Run fundraiser on April 19th, and the Bubble Fun Run will be held on Friday, May 1st. Volunteers will be needed! Be looking for more information in mid April.
FAB FRIDAY ~ Plans are being finalized for our FAB FRIDAY celebration. We will have many opportunities for students to celebrate their learning this year. Activities include a dunk tank, games on the playground, and off-site activities (bowling, Great Shots golf, and 605 Ninja) for 3rd - 5th Grade students. To be a success we will need many volunteers. Please mark your calendars for Friday, May 15th! More information to come!
