PCMS Weekly Update
August 28, 2026
Good Afternoon PCMS Families!
Okay Pirates, we have made it through the first week and what a great week it has been! It is so rewarding to see how quickly our students are remembering the routines or following in line if they are new to our school. Lunches have been running smoothly and a-la-cart will be available very soon, which is always a hit! This week classes spent a lot of time building those important relationships, establishing routines and procedures for learning. Here at Platte City Middle School, we have high expectations for learning in our classrooms and it starts with establishing those high functioning classrooms this first week. We can't wait to see what this year brings from these great kids we have walking our halls!
Itβs great to be back! Have a wonderful weekend and GO PIRATES!!
~Your principals,
Dr. Chris Miller, principal
Dr. Emily Miller, assistant principal

π First PCHS Home Football Game
As we gear up for our first home football game at Platte County High School tonight, we want to remind students and families of the expectations at Pirate Stadium. Elementary and MIDDLE SCHOOL students need to be accompanied by an adult to enter Pirate Stadium. There will be a section where our middle school students can sit with their friends at the south end of the stadium. This week, the high school shared the following expectations for all students and guests entering Pirate Stadium. We will review these expectations with our middle schoolers next week:
- Ok to sit or stand in the bleachers - not ok to gather anywhere else around the stadium
- No changing seats
- No jumping over rows
- Hands to yourself at all times
- Stairs must be clear at all times
- Ok to use the restroom/concession stand but must return to your seat immediately- no hanging out behind the bleachers
- Throwing anything will result in removal
- We must keep the stairs at the south end of the stadium free at all times for fans entering/exiting.
We want our students and guests to be there, be loud, be proud and cheer on their Pirates, but in a way that respects all in attendance. Parents, thank you for your help with this and GO PIRATES!

π΅ A Reminder: PCMS Is Still Cell Phone Free!
As we begin the new school year, we want to remind families that Platte County School District continues to be cell phone free during the school day.
Students are expected to keep their personal cell phones and other personal devices put away during the school day. This helps us create a more focused learning environment where students can engage in learning, build relationships, and be present with those around them.
We appreciate your support in helping us continue to make this policy successful! Thank you for reminding your student to leave their phone put away throughout the school day.
π« Professional Learning Days (PLD)
On Monday, September 21, school will not be in session for our first Professional Learning Community (PLC) day of the 2026-27 school year.
PLC days are designed to establish sustained and uninterrupted time for teachers to work together and collaborate to improve student learning and achievement. This time allows educators to examine and respond to the four basic fundamental questions of a Professional Learning Community:
- What is it we want students to learn?
- How will we know when each student has achieved the learning?
- How will we respond when a student is not learning?
- How will we respond when we know a child has mastered the learning?
For more information on PCR-3's Professional Learning Community, visit the PLC page on the District's website.
π± Text Notifications
The District uses text messaging and automated phone calls to notify parents of upcoming events and days off, school closings due to weather, and during emergency situations. Newly enrolled families will automatically receive an opt-in message from 67587. If you missed it, simply text βYesβ to 67587 to receive text messages.

π΄ Pirates ROCK - Alignment to Portrait of a Graduate
Since 2005, Pirates ROCK (Raising Outstanding Character Kids) has helped shape a strong culture of character across Platte County School District. More than 20 years later and beginning with the 2026-27 school year, we're building on that tradition by aligning Pirates ROCK with our Portrait of a Graduate essential skills.
This evolution creates a more consistent, student-centered approach to character development by focusing on the six essential skills that prepare learners to thrive in school, careers, and life. Students will continue to be recognized for demonstrating outstanding character while developing the competencies that support our mission of ensuring every learner thrives in an ever-changing world with confidence and resilience, all through a consistent framework and shared language as they grow from kindergarten through graduation.
Throughout the year, we'll focus on these essential skills:
- August/September: Effective Communication
- October/November: Self-Awareness
- December/January: Personal Connections
- February: Personal Growth
- March: Problem-Solving
- April: Global Connections
