Short Week - Big Events!
A month into the school year and time is flying! Hopefully this will be a short but valuable week inside the building for students and a meaningful holiday to all those observing. Read on to learn about a number of visits and upcoming events. Looking forward to seeing everyone at Back to School Night on Monday, with 9th Grade Parent Night starting at 6:00 pm!
Highlights for 9/29-10/10
- Class of 2026 students and families - please check your email for a detailed checklist of reminders for the college application process! Also, register for the PHS FAFSA Completion Night if you want assistance completing the form that opened earlier this week!
- Paying for 2 and 4 year colleges as well as other postsecondary institutions requires planning in advance! We encourage all families in grades 9-12 to register for the Little-Known Secrets of Paying for College webinar Tuesday night! If you cannot attend, a recording will be sent to you.
- Don't miss the upcoming PHS College & Career visits! If you see a college visit that says it is full, please email Ms. Allen and she will make more spots available!
- Register for PSAT practice in the counseling office and online SATs and ACTs practice with Revolution Prep.
- Details and registration links can be found under the College Visits tab in Naviance (you must be logged in): https://student.naviance.com/colleges/visits. You must register at least an hour prior to the scheduled visit.
- Visits will be held in the College and Career Center in the counseling office or Lecture Room A.Please view the location when registering.
- You will receive an email prior to the scheduled visit that will confirm your registration. Please show that to your teacher AND make a Minga pass to come to the visit! Attendance is documented.
- SENIORS - if you plan to apply to a school or have already applied, ATTEND THE VISIT. The representatives will be looking for you!!!
GETT Expo - 11/1
We are excited to share an upcoming opportunity for students to explore the many ways technology shapes our world. Girls Exploring Tomorrow’s Technology (GETT) is a free, hands-on event where girls in grades 4-10 can try interactive activities, meet professionals working in STEM, and discover exciting career paths for the future.
Event Highlights:
- Fun, hands-on STEM activities and demonstrations.
- Connections with STEM professionals and role models.
- Insights into careers that combine creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork.
Going Merry - College Funding Map
Planning for college, vocational school, or university can feel overwhelming—but starting early can make all the difference: the College Funding Map.
This free tool walks you through what you can be doing—starting as early as freshman year—to prepare financially for life after high school. It covers everything from understanding the cost of college, to applying for financial aid and scholarships, to building smart budgeting habits.
NACAC National College Fair - October 25th @ 11:00 am
At the Philadelphia Convention Center! Register online before the fair to receive a barcode for easy onsite access to college representatives. Print the barcode and bring it to the fair as your electronic ID. Online registration leaves more time for you to meet one-on-one with admission representatives.
