Spreading Kindness This February
We are so excited to welcome NorCal Gift From the Heart Foundation to Dewey this Friday! As part of our focus on kindness and community service, students will be creating Valentine cards and collecting new blankets for children receiving care at Shriners Children’s Hospital.
February is recognized as National Random Acts of Kindness Month, a time to intentionally spread compassion, empathy, and care for others. This partnership gives our students a meaningful opportunity to show kindness in action and make a real difference for children who may be spending Valentine’s Day in the hospital.
More information—including how families can participate in the blanket drive—will be coming home after our launch assembly on Friday. Thank you for helping us share love, warmth, and kindness beyond our campus!
Warm regards,
Sabrina Parsley, principal

Where Science Meets Design
Our fourth grade students took on an exciting engineering challenge by designing and building structures to protect an egg from breaking when dropped from a height. Design and construction took place in the Maker Lab, while students explored the science behind gravity, force, and impact in their classrooms.
Students tested their designs during a live egg drop, observing results and reflecting on what worked and what could be improved. This hands-on experience strengthened problem-solving, collaboration, and perseverance while showing students how science and design work together.
We Want to Hear From You!
The San Juan Unified School District has renamed its annual district climate survey to the School Experience Survey. This new name better reflects what the survey is about: your experience at your school.
San Juan Unified would like to invite parents, students and staff to take the school experience survey. Your feedback is vital and informs school leaders of the changes needed in their communities. The deadline for the survey is Feb. 6.
Surveys are available online in English, Spanish, Persian (Farsi/Dari), Russian, Pashto, Ukrainian and Arabic at:
Parent Survey - www.sanjuan.edu/parentsurvey
Student Survey - www.sanjuan.edu/studentsurvey
We greatly value your feedback and thank you in advance for your participation. Paper copies were sent home last week if you'd prefer to fill it out paper/pencil.

RaiseRight Update: Halfway Through the Year!
We're halfway through the school year, and it's exciting to see how teachers have been putting their RaiseRight funds to work in the classroom! So far this school year, teachers have used their accounts to purchase:
- Classroom books and library additions
- Essential classroom supplies
- Materials for specific projects and activities
- PE equipment and supplies
- Prize box goodies
- Math learning aides
- Vocabulary learning aides
Best of all, these are resources that didn't have to come out of teachers' personal pockets!
What is RaiseRight?
RaiseRight turns your everyday shopping into earnings for your child's classroom. When you purchase gift cards through RaiseRight, a percentage comes back as earnings—80% goes directly to your child's teacher's classroom account, and 20% goes into your family account to use toward school expenses like field trips. It's never too late to join!
