Unity Day - Wear Orange on October 22nd
Unity Day, started by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center in October 2011, is the signature event of National Bullying Prevention Month. This is a day when we can come together to send a visible message of building commUNITY through kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. The call to action is simple: wear and share the color orange. This vibrant statement becomes a conversation starter, showing support for students who have been bullied and for bullying prevention.
Trunk or Treat & Dance - Oct. 29th
If you would like to host a trunk or drop off a candy donation to be handed out that night, please contact our secretary, Katie Penney, in the office or email her at katie.penney@superior.k12.wi.us.

Cooper Families,
It has been an amazing start to the year. This year our Cooper Shared Leadership Team evaluated our results from last year and settled on our goals for the upcoming school year. Our academic goal for the year will continue to focus around literacy and we will be adding a math instruction focus as well. Our goal this year is:
By Spring of 2026, we will see an increase in the amount of students achieving above the 25th percentile in both math and reading based on district benchmark assessment norms.
Reading will increase from a school wide average of 80% to 85% of students achieving above the 25th percentile. Math will increase from a school wide average of 73% to 78% of students achieving above the 25th percentile. This increase will be a direct result of the focused PLC work at Cooper.
Last year, we saw significant improvement on our Fastbridge data and we would like to see this even more this year. This goal is backed up with positive data and survey results that reflected the hard work and dedication of our students and staff at Cooper. Please look for updates and information on our progress towards our school goals in the newsletters and information that we share with you throughout the year.
Finally, I will be hosting a brief, informative Annual Parent Meeting where I will share about Cooper's Title I Program. I will be talking about ways in which our Cooper students benefit from Title I funds. This meeting will take place on Monday, October 6th at 6:00PM via Google Meet. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. Please join the following link on Oct. 6th: meet.google.com/ond-whid-uya

PBIS
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is something that is very important to the School District of Superior and to Cooper Elementary. Your children know this better as showing Work, Respect, and Belong. Kids (and adults!) do better when expectations are clearly taught and re-taught. Being acknowledged for doing what is expected is also something that is motivating to both kids and adults. We spent the first couple weeks of school teaching and re-teaching the expectations throughout the building. We acknowledge students following the expectations with Kudos which can then be used for class and schoolwide rewards. Below you will see all the Cooper Work Respect Belong Expectations and a copy of a home matrix you could use to use Work Respect Belong expectations in your own home.
Cooper Community Learning Garden
This week, Garden Club members harvested over 20 pounds of Yukon Gold potatoes, planted last spring by Mr. Johnson's class and Mrs. Baker's class! As soon as the potatoes are cured, Mr. Olson and the Garden Club will be slicing them up to make some tasty chips!
In other garden news, we harvested a bumper crop of jalapeño and serrano peppers, which will be made into hot sauce to sell at our Celebration of Giving during the Holiday Concert!
We also commissioned Spartan Manufacturing (https://spartanmfg.org/) to create a huge dedication sign that will soon be on display along the garden fence!
We love to Live, Learn, and Grow together at our Cooper Community Learning Garden!

School Wide Reading Incentive Program
The library, PTA, and Family Engagement Coordinator have teamed up to create an at-home reading incentive program! Watch for a coloring sheet to keep track of those reading minutes. Students who reach the goal will receive a prize at the end of the month!
All reading counts! Students can read with someone, listen to a book, or read on their own. Get that very important practice in. Thank you for your support!
