Important Information
Lothrop's Halloween Parade
Lothrop will be hosting an all school Halloween Parade on Friday, October 31st at 10:30 am. Please note that this is an Early Release Day and all students will be dismissed at 11:30 am.
Students will line up by class on the blacktop (behind the school) and walk down through the playground onto Pleasant St. They will turn onto Arch St. and turn around at The Manor before heading back to Lothrop. Please read the following guidelines regarding costumes, where families can stand to watch the parade and pick-up. Thank you!
No Masks: The reason for this is that Halloween masks often cover the eyes of a child, impeding their vision and causing a potentially unsafe situation. So, please do not send any parts of a costume that cover eye areas, such as a "Halloween Mask."
Costumes: Costumes must not include weapons, blood, or gore. They must be school-appropriate and consider that we will have children in grades K-6 participating. Should learners wish to dress up and need help finding a costume, please let your child's teacher, or the front office know as soon as you are able.
Footwear: Please consider your child's footwear choice as we will march over Pleasant Street and up Arch Street, a little bit of a hike if one is in high heel shoes.
Where to watch: Families may view the parade from Pleasant Street and Arch Street. (We will help children with costumes-eliciting our Middle-Level students who will enjoy helping our Littles).
Pick-up: If you wish to pick up your child after the parade, please send a note in the morning. We will connect you with your child outside after the parade.
Snacks: Classrooms will be given guidance on snacks for the day and that information will come home in classroom newsletters.
Household Income Form
The Household Income Form (HIF) is a helpful tool to collect household income data when National School Lunch Program information is not available for a student. These data are used for a variety of educational purposes including calculation of pupil weights in the school funding formula, determination of eligibility for other household benefits such as affordable connectivity (internet) benefits and educator loan forgiveness qualification.
The Household Income Form is provided in both a PDF format and an online format. Both versions address FAQs such as: which form to use under which circumstances and how to report income status in data collections are available on the Household Income Form webpage. In addition, the Agency of Education has provided LEAs with “Fill the Form” materials for parent communication to encourage families to complete these forms. Data Town Hall meetings were held in early Spring and late Summer with registrars, business managers and data managers present. The agenda covered the purpose of the Household Income From, reviewed the forms, and reviewed the process of managing and reporting the household income data. For further information, please reach out to your SU Data Manager or email Jamie.Jarvis@vermont.gov.

Arrival Information
The school day begins at 8:00 AM and ends at 2:45 PM There is supervision on campus beginning at 7:35 AM. Families dropping off children should do so in the lower parking lot when there is an adult present and after 7:35 AM. From September until Thanksgiving, all learners will have an outdoor recess until 7:55 AM. From November until April, grade level clusters take turns playing outside on the blacktop for morning recess. Learners who arrive after 8:05 AM must report to the office to sign in before going to class. The adult dropping off the learner should escort them to the office.
Please be aware that critical instruction begins at 8:00 AM. If your child is tardy, he or she is starting the day by missing academic instruction or social emotional learning and connections to their class. Please make sure your child arrives by 7:55 AM.
Car Riders/Lower Lot Procedures
Car drop offs and pick ups should occur in the lower lot in the morning and afternoon.
Please pull all the way forward so we can unload or load as many students at one time as possible, it really does make it go faster.
Please remain in your vehicle, although we understand that some younger students still need help with seatbelts, if possible, please work with your child to be able to buckle their own seat belt.
Please remember that student safety is our priority. Please do not park in the lot and ask your child to come to you or pass other vehicles in line.
Please be patient, we're all working hard to make these times run smoothly.
Smart Snacks
In compliance with the Federal Child Nutrition Act, the RNESU Wellness Policy states:
“...foods provided, but not sold to students during the school day, may include food that is part of a classroom celebration or provided by parents or community organizations free of charge. Food provided but not sold will, at a minimum, comply with the Smart Snacks Standards.”
When supplying food for celebrations at school, please keep this in mind.
News from the Integrated Arts Team
What is Happening in Art Class?
This week in Art class we are finishing up our Square One Art pieces. Square One Art is a fundraiser where you can order products with your child’s artwork on it. It may take a few weeks for the order forms, which will be sent home when they arrive. I will keep you posted as more information is available.
In Kindergarten we have been learning how to draw shapes and the colors of the rainbow. We have been using crayons and cake tempera paints.First Graders have been painting hearts and drawing rainbows with cake tempera paints and oil pastels. Second and third graders have been learning about texture and using cotton balls and glue to add soft texture to their clouds in their pictures.Fourth, Fifth and Sixth grade have been working diligently on their Square One Art pieces.
This year we will be painting a mural that will be displayed in the library. The theme of the mural is Our Community at Lothrop. Students have already helped prime the board it will be painted on. Our next step is to design the mural. Students will all participate by designing pictures of what is important to them at Lothrop. I will go through all the designs and put them together into one design that incorporates all of the ideas. Then, together we will be painting the mural in small parts. Every student will get a chance to help out and work on the mural.
