Dear Trail Blazer Community
Blazer Nation,
I hope you enjoyed the long weekend and got lots of rest and family time and that you are looking forward to the four-day school week. Please take some time and read through the newsletter to stay updated on all things LT and FISD.
Superintendent's Student Advisory Council
Students have the opportunity to apply for the council through the general application process. The application is open from August 28-September 11. Applications will be reviewed by the campus principal in collaboration with assistant principals and counselors. . The first council meeting is scheduled for September 22. Here is more information about the council.
District Takes All Threats Seriously
Recently, there have been threats made to campuses by students via social media. Every threat is taken seriously and Frisco ISD is thankful for its strong partnership with area police departments and emergency services. Watch Frisco Police discuss why words matter.
Please remind your children that while they may be “joking” about having a weapon or threatening harm to a school campus, the punishment by law is at minimum a Class-A misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $4,000 and up to a year in jail. The punishment can be as severe as a third-degree felony, punishable by up to $10,000 and two to 10 years in prison. Frisco ISD supports the Frisco Police Department's full prosecution of any individual that threatens harm to our students, staff and campuses.
[TX Penal Code 22.07 Terroristic Threat]
[TX Education Code 37.125 Exhibition, use, or threat of exhibition or use of firearms]
Notably, families have the means to report concerns anonymously to the campus 24 hours a day. Frisco ISD uses the STOPit for students, parents and the community to report any concerns anonymously via web-based reporting or through the app. Please take a moment to learn about the STOPit resource.
Testing
PSAT
All FISD 10th and 11th grade students are automatically registered to take the PSAT/NMSQT, free of charge, during the school day on October 4, 2023. The PSAT helps students identify academic areas of strength and growth, as well as prepare for college entrance exams like the SAT. The PSAT/NMSQT is also the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program for students in 11th grade and the National Recognition Programs for both 10th and 11th grade
This fall the PSAT/NMSQT will be administered in a new digital format that will provide an overall easier testing experience for students. (The SAT is going digital in spring 2024.) Your child will take the PSAT/NMSQT on October 4th using their own school-issued device.
All FISD 9th and 12th grade students will have late arrival and report to campus at 12:45pm. There are no 1st or 2nd period classes on high school campuses or at the CTE Center.
The PSAT/NMSQT will be administered on campus on Wednesday, October 4 to 10th and 11th graders only.
Testing will begin at 9:00 AM sharp and anyone who arrives late will not be allowed to test.
Students taking the PSAT are not permitted to access cell phone or smart watches during the exam. Devices must be powered off and stored in a designated location during the exam. If a student is observed with any prohibited electronic device in the testing room or during a break their scores will be canceled.
Students will receive an email September 29 with their testing room number.
Students with late arrival 1A must arrive by 9:00 AM.
Students who will miss a dual credit course due to the PSAT must communicate with their professor prior to test day.
Students may bring the following on test day:
pencils
your own calculator but must be on the approved calculator list
Desmos graphing calculator is embedded desmos.com/calculator
snacks and drinks (may only be consumed during official breaks)
For additional PSAT test day and transportation information, please see the Frisco ISD website.
For questions about the PSAT, please contact CTF Facilitator, Lauren Phillips at PhillipsL@friscoisd.org.
