TERRIFIC THIRD GRADERS
Third Graders have wrapped up Social Studies and started Science! We have begun with a unit on Weather. Please ask us about all we are learning in Science. In Math we are working on fractions and in Language Arts we are perfecting writing a letter. We are excited to celebrate Black History Month. We will be working on research skills by choosing a Famous Black American and completing a research project to present to our classmates. Check out the pictures below of third graders celebrating the 100th Day of School in style! Mrs. Suranyi's class made Fruit Loop Necklaces to celebrate the special day.
ART WITH THE AWESOME MS. PAGANO
Second-grade artists have been exploring clay and have recently begun creating pinch pots using hand-building techniques. Students shaped their pots into hearts or any form they imagined and used clay tools to add carved patterns and textures. Each pinch pot is a one-of-a-kind creation that shows creativity and careful craftsmanship!

Three of our students were honored at the February Student of the Month Assembly because they are now published authors. They entered a writing contest offered through the company, YoungWriters USA. The students were to write a story told in the form of a mini saga, which is a story with 100 words or less. The stories could be funny or creepy, scary or mysterious. It was an awesome way to challenge and engage our students with writing and introduce the techniques of tension, suspense, and atmosphere. The students honored were Carter Mandia (grade 3), Amal Ghorfa (grade 3) and Liam Nazim (grade 4). Congratulations!
MISS ZHOU AND OUR THIRD GRADERS PUT ON A WONDERFUL PLAY PERFORMANCE
Congratulations to our amazing 3rd graders on a fantastic performance of their winter show, “FLAKES!” This heartwarming production used snowflakes as a reminder that each of us is unique, while also sharing many similarities that bring us together. Our students worked incredibly hard to learn their songs, lines, and stage directions, and their dedication truly shined on stage. We are so proud of their effort and teamwork! Thank you to our wonderful families for being such supportive audience members, and to our staff for all the time and care you gave to help make this show a success.

HILLCREST HAPPENINGS
Mrs. Haggerty's second grade class decorated their very own Valentine’s Day bags to collect all the sweet treats and note from their friends!
Third grade loved the assembly the Reading Team set up for Read Across America Week!
My, a 4th grader in Mrs. Rosser's calss, with help from her cousin Cat, 5th grader in Mr. McCauley's class, presented a slideshow they created to teach Mrs. Rosser's class about Lunar New Year. The girls did a fantastic job, and the class learned so much! Way to go, girls!
Karla loved the idea of teaching the class, so she created a slideshow about the country of Ecuador and presented it to Mrs. Rosser's class, as well. The class learned a lot about Ecuador. After the presentation, the class found out from Mr. Jones that we may be having a new student from Ecuador join our class in the near future. Now the class can talk about Ecuador with our new student if she joins us! Great work, Karla!

WIGGLY WORM SCIENTISTS!
Our kindergarten scientists had a wonderful time learning about earthworms! We discovered how worms help the soil and why they are important for plants and gardens. The students carefully built a cozy habitat with soil, sand, and leaves so we can observe our wiggly friends up close. We’re excited to watch how the worms move and help the earth in the days ahead! 🌱
100 DAYS SMARTER
Our kindergarteners are celebrating being 100 days smarter! 💯 We’ve been counting, creating, and having tons of fun with 100-themed activities all day long. From silly projects to big smiles, it’s been a joyful celebration of how much our students have learned and grown. We are so proud of our little learners and can’t believe we’re already 100 days in!

PLANTS & POLLINATION
Miss. Kings class making model pollinators in their first unit of science. Students learned that pollinators help plants reproduce. Plants and animals have a mutual relationship where they depend on each other. Jose made a bat which pollinates saguaro cactuses, Devyn made a butterfly which lands on colorful flowers because the butterfly is attracted to the colorful petals. Also, Leyana and Aiden made heliconia plants which are pollinated by purple neck hummingbirds.

FREEZIN' FOR A VERY IMPORTANT REASON
On a bitterly cold and rainy Friday, February 20th, a number of students and teachers attended the annual Polar Plunge at Citizens Bank Park. The team was able to raise more than $5,000 or the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania, a team record thanks to several students and faculty members.
