At Cherokee Trail we focus on six traits, teaching and fostering them in our classrooms and school-wide in order to create learners who are strong academically and socially.
They are:

ENTHUSIASM * PERSEVERANCE * INTEGRITY * COURAGE * EMPATHY * RESPECT

Read more on the EPICER page!

In September we will be focusing on ENTHUSIASM. Here are the student indicators:

* I show a positive attitude at all times

* I am eager to learn

* I show active engagement throughout my day

AT HOME: Discuss with your student "What are you passionate about, or in other words, what do you love to do? Why do you feel enthusiastic about your passion?"

Fall is my favorite time of year - I love the crisp air, the changing leaves, and warm apple cider! To kick off the fall, we enjoyed walking in the Chap Homecoming Parade with our StuCo students earlier this week. Our students really impressed me this year: We had multiple students who took note of very young children along the parade route and would energetically walk up to them and hand them candy with a smile. That kindness is what CTE (and the homecoming parade) is all about, and we are proud of our kids for being so amazing!

As you all know by now, safety is our priority. Moving into October, we will have several safety drills. We are required to have a fire drill monthly. Twice a year, we have a drill for unsafe weather (like tornadoes) in the area. Our first drill of this type will occur in October. We will also partner with DCSD security and our school resource officer for a mandatory lockdown drill in October. While these drills are required, we approach them in a manner that is supportive, kid-friendly, and not upsetting for students and staff alike. DCSD provides information for families and parents about these drills here and school safety and security here. Please also feel free to reach out to us if you ever have any questions about your child's safety.

The Principal Chronicles continue ...

As I write this, it is a torrential downpour outside, the Chap Homecoming Parade has been postponed, and I am keeping my fingers crossed that field day has very different weather than today. Looking at the weather report, it seems as though we will have beautiful weather, but it's not always accurate. Here at school, we just finished a professional development day with Eagle Ridge Elementary. We are doing the same initiative as they are, so we combined forces for the first part of the day. I think it is always interesting when we get together with another school and see what others are doing around the District. I also think our teachers find it valuable to get together with other teachers and compare notes. Especially our specials teachers since they are the only ones in the building that do what they do. Overall, it was a good day filled with learning.

On the home front, my one and only is officially a Kappa Delta. She went through the rush process and picked Kappa Delta as her new base of all things at CSU. This past weekend, she decided to go to Boulder to see a friend of hers. For some reason, unbeknownst to anyone but her, she decided not to take her car and take the free bus to Boulder. When she went to the bus stop, she apparently discovered that the bus was "wrong" and she missed it. Instead of waiting for another bus, she decided that taking an Uber would be a better idea. Allegedly, she had an Uber gift card that she used and thought it would be cheaper than driving her actual car. She got down to Boulder, had a great weekend, and then, when it was time to head back to Fort Collins by bus, she learned after getting to the bus stop that the bus doesn't run on Sunday. So apparently, all the "research" she did on the free bus was completely wrong. There she sat at the bus stop, and went through all of her options of how to get home to Fort Collins before her sorority meeting at 1:00. Luckily for her, she has a father with a car who answered his phone at 8:00 am on a Sunday morning. So there I was, spending most of my Sunday driving her from Boulder back to Fort Collins. Actually, it wasn't so bad. I got to hear all of her stories and catch up with her, which was nice. Now that she is out of the house, you miss those little moments where you find out the stories of her life. I'm still adjusting to being an empty nester but so far I haven't gone more than two weeks without seeing her.

That is it for this week's episode, stay tuned for next week when the Principal Chronicles continue ...
