Mrs. Brock's News

Lots of learning starting off this school year at Harp! This week we sorted all of our new Harp Hawk 2nd - 5th graders into their house. On Wednesday, we will sort our new 1st graders. We love welcoming our new Harp Hawks into our house families!

Breakfast in the Classroom is provided free for every student at Harp if they choose to take one. Breakfast is served until 7:45 and students always have two options to pick from. Students are provided time to eat in their classrooms.

Our tardy bell rings at 7:45. If you arrive after 7:45 you will need to park and walk your child inside and sign them in.

Our car rider line at dismissal is getting better. Please help us by staying in your car and going through the line instead of parking and walking up to pick up your child(ren). Our pre-k parents are the only ones that need to come inside the office for dismissal.

If you have any questions, please call our office at 479-750-8740 or email me at mbrock@sale.org

Specials

Art

We had such a fun time in the art studio this week! We learned about how to take care of the art materials and keep them in good condition to continue their use throughout the school year. In 1st-3rd grade, we made Improv Art. We talked about the difference between a fixed geometric shape and an organic shape. The artists made their organic shape and then switched papers. The students then used their imagination to create what they saw in their partner's organic shape. In 4th-5th grade, we made our creatures. The artists drew three random words out of the bag. For example, dragons, mermaids, and super strong humans. Then they took their words and made a creature with a dragon head, mermaid body, and super-strong human legs. I can't wait to display these in the hallway!

Library

We had a great week of checking out books - I think everyone was excited about reading new books! Hang on, Kindergarten! Your time is coming soon.

Kindergarteners are learning about the jobs of an author and an illustrator. Our first graders are starting an Aaron Blabey author study. Our first book is Pig the Pug!

Second grade is learning how to identify the problem and solution in a story. Then, we are reading The Library Lion to see if we can find the problem and solution. Third graders are learning how our fiction section is divided by genre, then sorting our books into those genre types.

Fourth and fifth graders are learning to use our OPAC catalog to find books. We’re doing an Escape Room activity to test our OPAC skills.

Ask your students what they are reading! Do they know where their library books are? Remind them to keep their books away from water!

Music

Kindergarten and first grade are learning about steady beat and talking about quarter note and quarter rest. We are playing jingle bells this week with a song called “The Legend of Tim Po!”

Second grade through fifth grade are learning both of their songs that we will sing at the Naturals game: “In School” and “Autumn Vibe.”

Second grade is working on their musical, “Hats,” and reviewing quarter notes, quarter rests, and eighth notes. We will play sticks along with a song.

Third and fourth grade will start working on ukulele this week. We are also working on quarter note, quarter rest, eighth notes, and whole note.

Fifth grade is working on our show, “Go West,” which will be on Tuesday, September 30th at 6pm. They will perform during the school day on Wednesday, October 1 at 8:15am. Students should now have their scripts, and should be practicing their lines at home. I will send out another note in a couple weeks about costumes!

Arte

¡Nuestro primer libro es “Pig the Pug”!

“In School” y “Autumn Vibe”.
