Dear Windsong Ranch Elementary Families,

Weโ€™re looking forward to seeing our Windsong families this week at our Grandparents & Special Friends Luncheon! Itโ€™s one of our favorite traditions and we canโ€™t wait to celebrate together. The Scholastic Book Fair will also be open during this time. I can still remember shopping with my parents at the book fair all those years ago! Stop by the library to purchase some reading material for the upcoming Thanksgiving break.

Reminder: Please bring your photo ID (pictures of IDs canโ€™t be accepted) and check your studentโ€™s scheduled lunchtime before arriving.

Enjoy the weekend and we'll see you Monday morning!

Together we Prosper,

Michelle Qualls

CogAT Testing Information

Prosper ISD will administer the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) to second and fourth grade students district-wide in December. The CogAT is a norm-referenced, standardized test measuring learned reasoning and problem-solving skills in three different areas: verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal. Reasoning skills develop gradually throughout a person's lifetime and at different rates for different individuals. CogAT result information is used by teachers to better understand a studentโ€™s ability in relation to his or her achievement.

There is no need to prepare for this test. You can support your child by making sure they are rested and well-fed on the day of the test.

Our campus will test on the following dates:

2nd Grade: December 2nd and 3rd

4th Grade: December 4th

Results will be shared with you in early January.

Seatbelt Reminder from the PD

The PD has shared the following information with us and we wanted to pass it along to our families. These violations are ticket-able and have been enforced over the last few weeks. Please be aware and properly secure children so they stay safe, healthy and happy. Thanks so much for your cooperation in keeping our Windsong Ranch students safe

Texas Occupant Restraint Laws, Transportation Code

Chapter 545. Operation and Movement of Vehicles
ยง 545.412. Child Passenger Safety Seat Systems; Offense.

In the State of Texas, all children under the age of 8 must be secured in a child passenger safety seat system unless they are taller than 4 feet 9 inches at all times the vehicle is in motion.

Key Regulations

  1. Infants and Toddlers (Birth to 2 Years): Children should ride in a rear-facing car seat until they are at least two years old or until they reach the maximum height or weight limit set by the car seat manufacturer.

  1. Children Ages 2 to 4: Once they outgrow the rear-facing seat, children should use a forward-facing car seat with a harness for as long as possible, up to the highest weight or height limit allowed by the car seat manufacturer.

  1. Children Ages 4 to 8: Children who exceed the limits for a forward-facing car seat should transition to a belt-positioning booster seat. They should remain in a booster seat until the vehicle seat belt fits properly, which typically occurs when they reach 4 feet 9 inches in height and are between 8 and 12 years old.

  1. General Requirement: It is illegal to transport a child under 8 years old in a passenger vehicle without securing them in a child safety seat or booster seat, unless they are taller than 4 feet 9 inches.

Together We Champion

In 4th-grade social studies, students are exploring the world of European explorers in Texas. They are learning about the motivations behind exploration such as economic opportunity, competition, and expansion while studying key figures like Cabeza de Vaca, Coronado, and La Salle. Through this unit, students are gaining an understanding of how these explorersโ€™ actions shaped Texas, including the establishment of Spanish settlements and missions, and the lasting impact on the region and its people.

We believe that empowering our staff strengthens learning for our students. This week, our teachers took the lead in delivering professional development on the essentials of the Workshop Model, sharing strategies and best practices for engaging instruction in the classroom. By learning from each other, our staff continues to grow as educators while ensuring every student experiences high-quality, meaningful learning every day.

BEST PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN TEXAS

Named by HEBโ€™s Excellence in Education Awards as the Best Large District in the State of Texas, Prosper ISD has an established 67-year history that is grounded in the humble roots of a farming community, now soaring to the fastest growing school district in Texas, due in no small part to the pursuit of excellence in the arts, academics and athletics. Our students and staff are routinely recognized on the local, state, and national levels for outstanding achievements, and our teachers are highly qualified experts who bring out the best in every student.

ABOUT PROSPER ISD

Prosper ISD is a school district located north of Dallas in Collin and Denton Counties. The district spans approximately 58 square miles and serves more than 32,000 students in 20 elementary schools, 6 middle schools, 4 high schools, and one early childhood school.

๐Ÿซถ THANK YOU TO OUR COMMUNITY FOR SUPPORTING OUR TEACHERS & STUDENTS

In November 2023, an overwhelming majority of voters approved $2.7 billion to continue building excellence in Prosper ISD. Thank you for your continued financial commitment to our district.

And while our facilities are second to none, we know that it is the people who make the difference in Prosper ISD. From our bus drivers to our teachers to our teacher assistants, our staff is here to support students as they pursue their dreams of excellence in academics, fine arts, and athletics.
