SMS E-News

Letter from Mrs. Perez
SMS Families,
We hope this newsletter finds you well! This week, we had or will have important discussions with our students about several topics that are vital for creating a positive and respectful school environment for all students. Here’s a summary of what we covered:
Physical Conduct and Respectful Interactions
We emphasized the importance of maintaining respectful physical conduct among peers. Our students learned that personal space is essential, and we encourage them to treat everyone with kindness and respect. Please remind your child to communicate openly if they feel uncomfortable in any situation.
Inappropriate Language
We addressed the issue of using inappropriate and racially insensitive language. It’s crucial for our school community to foster an atmosphere of inclusivity and understanding. We encourage you to discuss this topic with your child, reinforcing that words can have a significant impact on others.
School Devices/Social Media Use
We encourage students to use their school-issued Chromebooks for educational purposes only. It’s essential that they follow our guidelines and avoid accessing unauthorized websites. This ensures a productive learning environment for all.
We also discussed the significance of respectful social media practices. As many of our students engage with various platforms, it’s crucial that they understand the impact of their online interactions. Encourage your child to think critically about their posts and comments, and to treat others with kindness and respect in the digital world.
Behavior on Campus
We discussed the following campus expectations:
Do Not Open Doors: Students should not open doors for anyone during school hours, as this is a safety protocol.
Quiet Hallways After Lunch: To maintain a conducive learning environment, we ask students to keep noise levels down when moving through hallways.
Bathroom Behavior: We reminded students to use restrooms responsibly and to return to class promptly.
Lost and Found
Our Lost and Found is filling up! Please encourage your child to check for any missing items. We will be donating unclaimed items at the end of the quarter.
End of the Quarter Grades
As we approach the end of the quarter, we encourage you to check in with your child about their progress. This is a great opportunity to discuss their strengths and areas for improvement. Encourage them to reach out to teachers if they need help or clarification on any assignments.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us create a safe and positive environment for all students. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
Warm regards,
Mrs. Perez

Join the NEW MS/HS PTA Today!
Welcome to your BRAND NEW PTA exclusively for the students, teachers and parents of Sunnyvale Middle School and High School!
In order to meet the demands of our growing Student Body and Teacher populations in the school district, we have formed a brand new PTA that focuses solely on the Middle School and High School campuses. When you join this PTA, 100% of your funds will be used exclusively on events, engagements, and activities at these two schools.
If you are a parent or teacher reading this, we want you to know that we see you and hear you. We know that you are emotionally invested in the children at these schools. And we know that we can only exist as an organization with your support, not just financially, but also emotionally, spiritually, and physically. To be frank, we NEED you.
We are extraordinarily grateful for every single dollar you can give, every single hour you can volunteer, every single item you can donate to our organization. We are just getting started, but we truly hope that you will join us on this journey and help us to grow this PTA into something that will reflect the standard of excellence we have come to expect from our Sunnyvale School District.
Thank you and God Bless You.
