OCTOBER / WINTHROP WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
WELCOME THE MONTH OF OCTOBER AT THE WINTHROP SCHOOL
Dear Winthrop Families and Caregivers,
As we enter the month of October, we are excited to see our students staying focused and engaged in their learning!
This Friday, October 3rd, we will be celebrating Apple Crunch Day, a special tradition we’re proud to share with our school community. A big thank you to Russell Orchards Farm for partnering with us to make this event possible, and to Ms. Katie Norris for coordinating this initiative.
Thank you to all the families who attended our first Principal Coffee this morning. We had a wonderful turnout and appreciated the opportunity to introduce many of our specialists who provide essential academic and social-emotional support to our students.
The following specialists were in attendance:
· Ms. Meghan Ganley, Director of Special Education
· Ms. Jess Naugler Roy and Ms. Michelle Lizotte, School Counselors
· Ms. Lisa Nylan and Ms. Jane Dutcher, ELL Teachers
· Ms. Jenn Grenier, Title I Math Teacher
· Ms. Katie Norris, Math Coach
· Ms. Elyssa Brand, Literacy Coach
· Dr. Tracy Wagner, Director of Teaching and Learning
The session was both informative and supportive. We encourage continued communication and engagement between home and school. Attached, you’ll find a flyer summarizing the topics discussed, including a helpful guide to the book The Anxious Generation, which was shared during the event.
Winthrop School Updates:
Attached is the A.C.E. Program Sign-Up Sheet for those interested in participating.
Just a note to let you know in the area of safety our very own S.R.O. Joe Perna will be visiting classrooms the week of October 6th to review safety and emergency protocols with students in their grade level classrooms. Joe will also be providing a safety and emergency protocol session with our winthrop staff on Thursday, October 9th. Please reach out with any questions.
MCAS scores from last year are in and are being mailed out Thursday, October 2, 2025 from the Winthrop School.
Thank you for your continued support.
Warm regards,
Dr. Maureen Lueke and Mr. Aaron Clark

MESSAGES FROM THE GREEN TEAM AT WINTHROP SCHOOL
- Halloween Costumes - Doyon is collecting gently-used, elementary-aged costumes for their annual Spooky Walk Costume Swap on Oct 4th. There is a bin outside the front office at Doyon for all donations. The Costume Swap is FREE with the purchase of Spooky Walk tickets.
- Russell's Apples Partnership - Did you know that Winthrop and Doyon Schools have partnered with Russell Orchards to supply a bushel of apples to each school each week this fall? Thank you to the Food Services Director, cafeteria staff, Russells, and Green Team parent volunteers for making this magic happen! Our students are so fortunate to have access to these local (low food miles!) and delicious apples every day.
Get Involved! If you are interested in helping with Green Team events and initiatives, or are interested in joining the Green Team mailing list, please reach out to Molly Dugdale at mduffy345@gmail.com.
