Math: Chapter 3: Multiplication Facts and Strategies Test Monday, November 2. The study guide was sent home earlier this week. Study guide answer key.

Chapter 4: Multiplication with Multiples of 10s and 100s.

Grammar: Concrete and Abstract Nouns

Reading: Into the Deep - Why do people explore the deep sea?

Unit vocab: discover, explore

Unit skills: Identifying the main idea of nonfiction texts, summarizing non-fiction texts, text features

Writing: Into the Deep - At the end of this unit, students will be able to write a 4-paragraph opinion essay about why humans should or should not explore the deep sea.

Timed Math Fact Multiplication Tests

We will be introducing students to Timed Math Fact Multiplication Tests starting Monday, November 9th. The timed tests are designed to expose kids to their multiplication facts each day in order for them to become more fluent and recall them quickly. If kids do not pass the math fact test each day, they will bring extra practice for homework that night. Please be sure to check your child's green Take Home folder each night in case they bring home math fact homework. Homework does not need to be timed.

The websites below are good sites to help your child learn and practice multiplication math facts. Please encourage and include multiplication in your child's daily practice at home.

The challenges for both Book It! (reading) and TangMath (math) are optional, but we strongly encourage them to enhance your child's learning. New challenges and papers will be issued and sent home at the beginning of November.
