ANSWERS to the Most Frequently Asked Questions since Closing

1. Do we have to continue to pay Pre-K tuition while we are out? What happens if we paid all the way through March?

Answer-

* NO payment(s) will be charged or expected during the dates school is not in session.

* All payment(s) collected from March 16 - March 31 will be prorated and applied to April tuition cost.

Should you have further questions regarding preschool concerns, do not hesitate to contact either Julie Parks jparks@mcss.k12.org or Jenny McAlister jmcalister@mcssk12.org.

2. Do we get credit for After School Care payments if we paid for the full month of March?

Answer-

ASC Payments will be prorated. All payments collected from March 16- March 31 will be credited to April.

3. What happens to the money we paid for the DC Trip (5th graders)?

Answer-

Those who paid for the travel insurance will get a full refund.

Those who did not pay for the travel insurance we are not sure about just yet. Mr. Perkins, our superintendent, Monrovia Elementary, Harvest Elementary, and Endeavor Elementary are working together to negotiate a full refund for all parties. However, we do not have the answers to this just yet. Please be patient as we work to ensure no one is penalized for something none of us could control. Mr. Perkins is determined to do what is right for our families.

4. When will enrollment for next year open?

Answer-

We are unsure at this point. Please watch all communications for this answer in the near future.

5. When will our students take state assessments?

Answer-

We are scheduled to take state assessments on April 13-17. If we return on April 6, we have a window where we can move these forward just a bit. We would probably move them forward a week in order to give teachers/students time to review before taking these. If our return date changes, we will wait for guidance from the District and Alabama State Dept. of Education.

6. What if I need to withdraw my student during the time school is closed?

Answer-

No students will be withdrawn during the time school is closed. If you have any questions about withdrawals, please email Mrs. McAlister jmcalister@mcssk12.org or our supervisor of student services Keith Trawick at ktrawick@mcssk12.org.

7. Can we still buy a yearbook?

Answer-

Online yearbook sales have been extended until March 30th. You may order online at ybpay.lifetouch.com. The code is: 10861420. You will have to purchase the yearbook online since no one is in the office to take payments.

8. Will IEP meetings still be held during the closure?

Answer-

No; IEP meetings will not be held during the closure. Any IEP meetings that were scheduled between March 16 and our return to school will be rescheduled as soon as we return. If you have specific questions about IEP services, please email Cassie Parsons cparsons@mcssk12.org for K-5 questions and Julie Parks at jparks@mcssk12.org for Preschool questions.

9. Will the missed school days have to be made up at the end of the school year?

Answer-

No; The days will not have to be made up. This includes the Mon-Wed, March 16-18.

10. If my child was receiving mental health services through NOVA counseling at school can they still get services during the school closure?

Answer-
