WHAT IS A SOCIAL CONTRACT?
As part of Capturing Kids’ Hearts, each class will work together to create a Social Contract this week in all classes—a shared agreement between students and teachers about how everyone wants to be treated and how they will treat others.
The contract is built around four key questions:
-
How do we want to be treated by our teacher?
-
How do we want to be treated by each other?
-
How do we think our teacher wants to be treated by us?
-
How will we handle conflict and misbehavior when it happens?
This process gives students ownership of their classroom environment, builds mutual respect, and creates a positive culture where everyone feels safe, valued, and accountable.
ALL FRESHMEN HAVE ASSIGNMENT NOTEBOOKS
All freshmen are required to have and use an assignment notebook to keep track of their daily work in every class. Teachers check these regularly and expect students to write down homework, projects, and upcoming assessments. This practice not only helps students stay organized but also builds responsibility for managing their own learning. Parents are encouraged to ask to see the assignment notebook in the evenings so they know exactly what homework their child has and can help ensure it is completed on time. Freshmen are held accountable for using their notebooks consistently, making it an essential tool for success during the school year. Assignment notebooks were distributed in English classes this week.
THIS WEEK IN BIOLOGY
This week in Biology, we concentrated on developing team-building skills. The students collaborated daily in various group formations to enhance their teamwork and communication abilities with diverse peers. They demonstrated strong cooperation and preparedness, reflecting their readiness for the upcoming school year.

Que pasa en las clases de Espanol?
In Spanish class we learned about Tomatina in Spain, a giant tomato throwing festival. The twist we made in class was to write a positive note and then “throw” our positive tomatoes on classmate’s locker or on a teacher’s door.

WHS STUDENT HANDBOOK REVIEW
This week, Ms. Powers visited English classes to review some of the most important parts of the student handbook with our students. We encourage you to take a few minutes to look over these expectations as well. Your support at home in reinforcing these guidelines is invaluable and helps our students be successful both in and out of the classroom. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure a positive and productive school year.

I will be emailing scholarship opportunities on a regular basis, so please encourage your student to check their email frequently and review each one to see if they are eligible.
If your student needs help understanding or applying for a scholarship, Mrs. Tyler and Mrs. Dawson in the main office are available to assist them.
📌 Important notes:

Scholarships are a great way to reduce the cost of college or technical training
