Mustang Update
We had an exciting and fun evening at our Mustang Spirit Night this past Friday! Our thanks go out to the members of the Valley Heights Community Coalition for all of their hard work in planning for this annual event. The parents and students could participate in outdoor games prior to the volleyball scrimmage and then some indoor games once we had the gym ready for the pep rally. KNDY Radio was present to do some pre-recorded messages for future play on the radio, our FFA program provided hot dogs, water and popcorn to our fans, and Storm Design & Apparel was on hand to provide Mustang gear. Student Council was in charge of the pep rally and had a full house on hand to participate. Group activities, fall team introductions, cheer presentations and introduction of new staff members to Valley Heights were just some of the items on the agenda! Once again β thank to you all for kicking off the 2025-2026 school year in style!
Parents β as we start the school year we would like to encourage every family to take advantage of the parent portal provided through PowerSchool! This is a great way to monitor you childβs progress in their classes, absences and tardies, missing assignments, etc. Often times, by staying informed, we can help our students greatly! If by chance, you have forgotten your password or are having any log-in issues please do not hesitate to call us so we can help you.
Parents & Students β We will be watching student attendance and tardies very close this year. You should have received a letter in this regard in your welcome back mailing! Make sure you look this over and plan on following those guidelines closely. A student can only miss 5 days in the first semester and 7 days total for the year. If you miss three consecutive days due to illness then you must have a note from a medical office that you have been seen by a doctor. Partial absences can and will add up to the totals of five and seven days. The only excused absences are School Activities, Court Appearances (with a note), Grievance and Medical Issues (with a note excusing a student from school by the professionals providing service). Medical offices are aware of this and will provide a note but you may have to ask for one. Classes start at 8:05 am and end at 3:25 pm. Make sure your student is arriving to school in plenty of time to be in their classroom before the start of school. Tardies will also be registered if a student is late to any of their classes during the day. If you have any questions about this please do not hesitate in contacting my office for more information.
We are quickly entering the start of the fall sports season. The Lady Mustangs will be in action on Saturday, August 30th at the Marysville Volleyball Tournament! Pool play will begin at 9:00 am. Valley Heights is in the Black Pool and will square off with Nemaha Central, Concordia, Riley County and Marysville. Come on out and cheer on our Mustangs! Football starts with a Jamboree at Silver Lake on August 29th and the first regular season game on September 5th. Cross Country and our junior high programs will start their seasons on September 4th. Check out our USD 498 Google Calendar for locations and updated start times!
We have just completed the first week of classes and the students and staff are working hard already! It always takes a little while for everyone to get into a rhythm as far as class schedules and new policies but the school year is already running smoothly. We are looking forward to another successful year for our Mustangs!
Go Mustangs!

π‘VHHS STAFF SPOTLIGHT π‘
Mr Tommy Tryon
The New Husband and Wife as of August 23rd, 2025
This week our staff spotlight shines on Mr. Tommy Tryon. This was an easy choice since Mr. Tryon married Ms. Annie Otott this past Saturday! Congratulations! Mr. Tryon (Tommy) teaches Physical Education, Health and Weights for Valley Heights. Tommy is a very busy person because he also is an Assistant Football Coach, Head High School Track Coach, and sponsors Powerlifting if time allows.
Tommy is a 2012 graduate of Valley Heights High School! This is his fifth year in education and his 2nd year at Valley Heights. He earned an Associates Degree from Cloud County, his Bachelor of Science from Kansas State University and a Masterβs Degree in Teaching/Education from Grand Canyon University.
Tommyβs favorite thing about working at his Alma Mater is βmaking a positive impact in the community I grew up inβ and βbeing a part of a great Mustang teamβ! His hobbies include watching football, lifting weights and spending time with his family and friends.
An interesting fact about Tommy is that he has visited just about the same number of foreign countries (8) as states (11).
Additionally, Tommy states that he and his wife (and future family members) are excited to be a part of the Mustang Family!!
"Keeping up with the Mustangs" is back!
