Senior Information
April 11, 2023
Dear Seniors and Families:
We know these final weeks of Senior year are a memorable time in the lives of our students. We have a number of Senior activities designed to recognize their achievements and celebrate their years in Affton Schools. This letter will outline these events and provide dates and the information you need to plan for them.
PROM
Senior Prom will be Saturday, April 22, from 6-10 p.m. at Royale Orleans (2801 Telegraph Road, St. Louis, MO 63125). No students will be admitted after 6:30 pm. If your student is attending, please make sure they arrive on time.
AWARDS DAY
We invite you to attend the recognition ceremony on Friday, May 12, from 8-10 a.m. in the high school auditorium. To be properly recognized, all seniors must complete the form found in their Canvas Advisory course for Mrs. Giunta by Friday, May 5. If your Senior has received any scholarships or awards, please submit a copy of the letter or certificate confirming them. Only students who provide documentation of awards and scholarships will be recognized during the ceremony.
SENIOR PICNIC
The annual spring picnic will be held immediately following the Awards Day event at the AHS stadium. This is a parent sponsored event, and help is needed with set up and clean up. Volunteers will be able to attend the awards ceremony and help after. More information to come! To volunteer to help, please contact Melissa Eckhard at meckhard@afftonschools.net.
SENIOR EXAMS
Seniors will take their exams on the following days and for the following class periods:
Wednesday, May 10 - Hours 2, 4, 6
Thursday, May 11 - Hours 1, 3, 5, 7
Last day of school for Seniors is Friday, May 12, and will consist of Awards Day and Senior Picnic only.
REQUIRED GRADUATION PRACTICE/ GRADUATION TICKET DISTRIBUTION
On Wednesday, May 3, we will hold graduation practice at 7:30 a.m. Virtual and off-campus students should report to the cafe no later than 7:30 a.m. All graduating Seniors are required to attend. At the conclusion of graduation practice, Seniors will receive their cap and gown and will participate in our annual Grad Walk throughout the Affton School District. At the completion of the event, students will receive eight admission tickets to graduation.
Please note that the number of guests allowed at the ceremony is dependent on weather. Four tickets will be for guests to attend both the planned ceremony at the stadium or in the inclement weather location of the auditorium; the other four tickets will be valid for the stadium only. In the event that we will need to shift to the auditorium, each graduate will be allowed four total guests.
Please note that each Senior must sign to receive both their eight tickets and one parking pass. Replacements and extra tickets or parking passes will not be available.
GRAD WALK
Immediately following graduation practice on Wednesday, May 3, Seniors will experience our second annual Grad Walk. Affton School District buses will transport Seniors to each of the other schools (Rogers Middle School, Gotsch Intermediate, Mesnier Primary, and Affton Early Childhood) where teachers and younger students will celebrate our Seniors as they walk the halls one final time in their caps and gowns. This promises to be a lifetime memory for our students. Seniors will be transported back to Affton High School to receive their graduation tickets and parking pass and will be dismissed immediately following.
GRADUATION
Graduation for the Class of 2023 will be held Friday, May 19, at 7 p.m. at the Affton High School Stadium. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the AHS Auditorium. A decision will be made by 1 p.m. and will be communicated via text message and email.
Admission will be by ticket only. For the courtesy of those seated around you, no balloons or large signs will be allowed.
Seniors need to arrive between 5:30-6:00 p.m and should report directly to the AHS Gym. Anyone arriving after 6 p.m. risks missing the class photo. Families and guests will not be allowed to go inside with them. Stadium gates (or auditorium doors) will also open at 5:30 p.m. Please note that each Senior will receive ONE parking pass, which will be needed to park on the AHS campus. Additional parking will be available at Rogers Middle School (7550 Mackenzie Road), Gotsch Intermediate (8348 S. Laclede Station Road), and Mesnier Primary (6930 Weber Road) with transportation to the AHS campus provided until 6:45 p.m. Shuttles will also be available after the ceremony.
If your family is in need of handicap parking or seating for the graduation ceremony, please email Dedra Davis with your requested accommodations and your contact information.
FINAL TRANSCRIPT REQUEST
Seniors will need to have a final transcript sent to the potential school or military service of their choice. Mrs. Giunta will be your contact for those, and you need to ensure she has the proper information before your last day of school.
These last weeks of high school will move very quickly! Please make sure you take time to slow down and enjoy the moments. We hope to see you at our celebrations and look forward to adding the Class of ‘23 to alumni status!
Sincerely,
Dr. Deann Myers
