Principal Notes:

Parents,

I hope you have all enjoyed this beautiful weather! We are certainly into Spring - and it's crazy weather. The Kindergarten program was amazing this past week and our kindergarteners also enjoyed an fun "indoor" Easter Egg hunt!

There is a CSI PTA night scheduled for Thursday - I am sure that this will be a lot of fun!

Also - just a quick reminder that "Teacher Appreciation Week" is quickly approaching. (May 6 -10) I know that you will want to let your child's teacher know just how much you appreciate them. Mrs. Wiseman and I do too and we will be doing some special things that week along with PTA.

If you happen to know of any incoming Kindergarten students that missed Kindergarten Roundup, we would still like to register them early. Please ask parents to contact the school!

Many of you have asked about End of Year graduations (KInder and 4th) and End of Year awards (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) below is a picture with dates and times of those assemblies. Each grade level will have their own assembly to make sure there is plenty of time for all recognitions.

If your students are walker or bike riders, please ask them to enter the building as soon as they can after arriving on campus. It makes my principal heart happy to know that everyone has arrived safely and in the building where we can insure that they are where they are to be.

We have seen a rise in our number of tardies. Please make every effort to have students in the building BEFORE 7:30 so that they can be to their classrooms by 7:30. Congratulations to our weekly attendance winners!!

For Kids,

Mrs. Wilson

Congratulations!

As you have probably heard, Mrs. Wiseman has been named the new principal of Wally Watkins Elementary! We will miss Mrs. Wiseman a ton, but we are so PROUD and HAPPY for her! She will be a great leader for the Wranglers! We always say...."Once a Coyote, always a Coyote!"

New Assistant Principal

Let's make our new Assistant Principal, Mrs. Angela Clark feel welcome! You will begin to see her around our campus occasionally, and she will officially begin on July 8, 2019. Please come by and introduce yourselves.

Mrs. Clark is a seasoned teacher with many years of experience at various grade levels. Most recently, she has been teaching at Whitt Elementary, right here in Wylie ISD. She lives in our community and has 2 children that will be coming to Cox with her next year!

Multicultural Night - We want to learn about your culture!

We would love for our students to learn about all the many cultures represented at Cox Elementary! Our diversity is one of the most special things about our school. This includes Dual Language, but we have many other cultures that are not part of Dual Language. We want to include EVERYONE! Traditional food, dance, clothing, music, art, etc. all educational for our students.

Pick up and drop off reminders:

Please, please, please do not drop of student unaccompanied in our parking lot. It can be dangerous, and we DO NOT want you to put your children in unnecessary danger. Our drop off line moves very quickly, so please use that method, or park and walk students to the crosswalk.

If you drop off students after the adults have gone inside in the morning (after 7:30), we need you to get out and come in with the students. We need to insure that they are safely inside the building. They will also have to buzz in to get into the building.

Please make every effort to have students at school each day for the full day! I know that sometimes students are ill, but if not please have them at school. It is so crucial that we have them here each day.

Please do not drop students off in the back of the school building. Buses and day cares are the only ones authorized to drop off there. We do not have the personnel to man the back and ensure that those students make it into the building. Please help us with that -safety is a top priority.

Nurses Notes:

As you may have recently experienced or heard, the cold and flu season are in full swing. Please continue to remind your students of the importance to adhere to good hygiene habits. We can avoid illness with good oral hygiene, bathing/showering, wearing clean clothes (including jackets/coats), and of course WASHING OUR HANDS! I like to also stress it’s a good idea to avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth while at school. A quick reminder, we have a lost and found full of winter outwear. Please be sure to stop and claim your items. Stay warm and healthy! ~Nurse Monica

GT Referrals and Timeline

Reserved Parking

Please do not park in the designated handicap parking unless you have a car tag or plates. We have several families that need these parking spots. Our car lines in the morning move fast. The lines are the safest place for your child to be dropped off unless you are personally walking them to the door. Thank you!

Did you know....

That daily attendance is a part of our accountability with the state of Texas? This is a huge way that parents can support our efforts of success at Cox.

We know sometimes emergencies arise and that students are sick, but please make every effort to have students at school every single day! Everyday that students miss is lost learning time. If everyone is absent 1 day less than the year before, we can achieve our goal! If you had perfect attendance - let's try to maintain that! We want to get the best grade that we can from the state, and this is one way to help.

Are you cleaning out closets and drawers?

If you have things to donate, we have just the place for you! You will find this bin behind our school!

The Power of Yet!

This month we are learning about the power of yet! There are a lot of things we can't do...yet! The power of yet is a change in your thinking. Instead of saying that you can't do something, say that you can't do something YET! Then, think about what you can do to change I can't into I can!

Discuss the quote: "It always seems impossible until it is done." What are some things that used to seem impossible to you?

Read the book Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall. Discuss how Jabari feels at the top of the high dive. Have you ever felt like that when trying to do something? How does Jabari overcome his fears and learn to believe in the power of yet?

Make your own growth mindset posters. Research growth mindset quotes and saying on the internet. Then, choose your favorite and write the phrase in big letters. Add bright colors and pictures. Then, hang the poster in your room to remind yourself to have a growth mindset.

Welcome to campus for lunch!

Parents may choose to sit at their child's table with the rest of the class or sit at the parent table with your child (and 1 friend). If you sit with the class we ask that you follow the cafeteria rules, including speaking quietly when asked to, so that you set an example for the students sitting near you. We can only allow a student to invite 1 friend to eat with them. Please help us with this.

- Parents are allowed to bring food for their child only. We want to make sure all students are protected at lunch time in case of any allergies or other needs.

- All visitors must check in at the front office and wear a visible sticker during their stay. A good practice is to have your ID with you at all times while on campus.

We look forward to seeing you all throughout the year. We hope that you enjoy your time with your child during lunch.
