Term 3 Term 3

Welcome to our Term 3 newsletter. We've had another really busy term with lots of lovely weather and end-of-year activities! We hope you enjoy some highlights from each class below, as well as some whole-school activities and events!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support for our school throughout the 2024-2025 school year. It is a real pleasure leading such a warm, positive, enthusiastic and happy school community.

On Tuesday 24th June we will have our 6th Class Graduation. It has been so enjoyable seeing these pupils grow up into such independent and kind young people, and I would like to wish them all well as they finish up primary school and begin their journey into second level school. While the graduation ceremony is only for the families of those graduating pupils, the school community are all invited to applaud 6th class along the road outside the school as they leave Pelletstown ETNS for the last time on Wednesday 25th June at 11:30am.

Wishing all of our families a safe and enjoyable break over the summer and I look forward to welcoming you all back to school on August 28th!

Best wishes,

Caitríona

Marathon Relay Day and Ice-cream Van ~ Tuesday 24th June Marathon Relay Day and Ice-cream Van ~ Tuesday 24th June

Marathon Relay Day will take place on Tuesday 24th June for all classes. All families are invited to come to the green to watch children participating in this - see timetable below! The children did a wonderful job fundraising for this event, raising a total of €5,110. This will be matched by the Keith Duffy foundation, bringing the total amount to an amazing €10,220. We are so grateful to the PTA for organising this, and we look forward to using the money raised to purchase a sensory pod for the school!

We are also looking forward to our annual visit from the Ice-Cream Van - thanks also to the PTA for always organising such a special treat!

School Garden

Lots of classes throughout the school planted potatoes, peas, beans, strawberries, and onions this year. Most were started in the classroom and then planted in the school vegetable garden. Some classes have started harvesting and eating their produce and Garden Gang celebrated their growing season with a feast!

To support biodiversity we planted native wildflower seeds and left some grass areas to grow wild. We planted some native hedgerows and some pollinator friendly flowers. Some classes designed birdhouses, others enjoyed nature walks along the canal and spotting wildlife for artistic inspiration. We watched frogspawn grow into froglets and kept a close eye on some blackbird’s nesting. Our hard work was recognised in achieving a Bronze Badger Nature Hero Award for supporting biodiversity.

Eimear also told the children that she didn't take up rowing until she was 12, and that it was the first sport she really enjoyed! She spoke about the importance of perseverance and trying your best! We were delighted to have her present sports awards to children in the school who always represent the school with pride and show respect and good sportsmanship in all activities!

We were delighted to have the opening of our sensory garden and outdoor classroom on 9th May. We will be forever grateful to Lynn and Joanna from the PTA, along with the Plunkett's Men's Shed (who have given so generously of their time) who worked tirelessly on the development of our school's sensory garden and outdoor classroom. We were thrilled to welcome back our original school manager, Gerry Mc Kevitt, who officially opened the 2 spaces. Both the sensory garden and the outdoor are getting so much use by the pupils in our school. Thanks also to Lynn and Joanna for their work in organising the installation of a swing and slide in our Autism class yard, which the children are really enjoying!

Classes engaged in different activities throughout the week and on the Friday the whole school came together to sing 'Union of Different Kinds' and go on our annual Rainbow Walk.
