Capitol Hill Community Barbecue – Join Us
We are so excited for the third year of our Community Barbecue, a growing Capitol Hill tradition where our entire community comes together to share a meal, connect, and celebrate.
This event grew out of conversations during our Equity Team dinners with families of color and continues to be a meaningful way to honor the rich cultures and identities that make our school strong. We hope you’ll join us on June 3rd from 5:00–7:00 PM for an evening of food, art, and fun!
We are incredibly grateful to our PTA for their generous $1,000 donation, which helps make this event possible.
This is truly a community-powered event, and we need your help to make it a success! We’re looking for volunteers and contributions such as:
Grills (and help transporting them!)
Cooks and grill helpers
Side dishes, condiments, and potluck items
Set-up and clean-up support
Help running activities like art, games, and more
👉 Please take a moment to RSVP and let us know how you can help by filling out this form: https://forms.gle/rFod4pFJhAjdFWPw7
Your participation—whether by attending, bringing a dish, or lending a hand—helps create a joyful, welcoming experience for all.
We can’t wait to celebrate together!
2026 - 2027 PTA Board Members Needed
We are searching for volunteers to fill our open broad positions next school year. This is a great way to connect with families and make a impact in the community. The roles can be done on your own time and only about 2 to 4 hours a month (including meetings). All current board members will be available next year to help and answer any questions you may have. The current open positions are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer 2, Volunteer Coordinators. For more information on these roles and contact information for the current board members, please follow this link: https://www.capitolhillpta.org/our_pta
Also, we are in need of Event Leads/Co-Leads for many PTA events. Some of the events are VIP Day, Big Boo, Auction, Garden Team Lead and Staff Appreciation. Mental Health Awareness Month
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to recognize that emotional well-being is just as important as physical health for our students.
Our school community is committed to supporting the health and well-being of every child. Families also play an important role at home. Simple, everyday actions such as listening, maintaining routines, and spending a few minutes of one-on-one time can make a meaningful difference.
A few reminders:
1 in 5 children experience a mental health challenge each year
Early support can improve learning, behavior, and relationships
Asking for help is a sign of strength
Ways to support your child:
Talk openly about feelings—listen more than you fix
Keep routines consistent
Spend 10 minutes a day connecting one-on-one
Encourage breaks, movement, and rest
Conversation starter:
“What was the best part of your day? What was the hardest?”
When to check in more closely:
Big changes in mood or behavior
Trouble sleeping or eating
Loss of interest in favorite activities
Withdrawing from friends or family
If you notice these signs, reaching out early can help.
